Staff Physician (Plastic Surgery) - Relocation/Recruitment Incentive/EDRP eligible

About the role

The Plastic Surgery staff physician is responsible for patient care, patient education and resident supervision. The Plastic Surgeon provides comprehensive plastics surgery care for patients within the scope of plastic surgery. The scope of this activity covers all phases of clinical care in the inpatient and outpatient settings.

Responsibilities

• Writing medical orders and prescriptions for the care of the patient
• Documenting care in the computerized patient record system
• Obtaining consent and documents procedures performed
• Providing education and counseling to patients and their families and the use of prescribed treatments and medications for other medical conditions
• Reviewing revised policies and scope of practice standards, etc.
• Completing consults received for plastic surgery evaluation
• Performing comprehensive and detailed history and physical examination
• Ordering diagnostic studies such as laboratory tests, radiologic exams and procedures
• Consulting other services to complete the patient evaluation, etc.

Qualifications

• Citizenship: Be a citizen of the United States (U.S.). Non-citizens may be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens.
• Education: Degree of Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in allopathic medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from an institution whose accreditation was in place for the year in which the course of study was completed. Approved schools are: Schools of medicine accredited by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME) for the year in which the degree was granted, or Schools of osteopathic medicine approved by the Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation of the American Osteopathic Association for the year in which the degree was granted.
• Licensure/Registration: Physicians must possess a current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a state, territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia. The Physician must maintain current registration in the state of licensure if this is a requirement for continuing active, current licensure.
• Residency Training: Physicians must have successfully completed residency training, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs, in an accredited core specialty training program.
• Board Certification: Physicians are generally not required to be board certified for employment in VA; however, three circumstances in VA require Physician board certification.
