About the Role

The Registered Nurse (RN) protects, promotes, and optimizes health and abilities, preventing illness and injury, and alleviating suffering through diagnosis, treatment, and advocacy in the care of individuals and families. The RN is responsible for compliance with all standards of practice and professional development, promoting a caring and healing environment for patient-centered care.

Responsibilities

  • Manage nursing care for a group of patients, serving as a primary or accountable nurse.
  • Educate patients and families in health promotion and disease management.
  • Administer medications safely according to UHS Hospitals policy.
  • Ensure effective resource utilization including staffing, time management, and supplies.
  • Comply with nursing practice standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Participate in the Nursing Shared Governance Model and improvement initiatives.
  • Engage in professional development and continuing education.
  • Integrate nursing research and current evidence into practice.
  • Support learning for new employees and students.
  • Perform duties of Charge Nurse or Shift Coordinator when assigned.
  • Participate in the Clinical Ladder Program as expertise develops.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Skills & Experience

  • 6 months - 3 years of Nursing (RN) experience.
  • Collaboration, Communication, Critical Thinking, and Problem Solving.
  • Organizational Understanding and Time Management.
  • Quality, Reliability, Safety, and Risk Management.

Preferred Skills & Experience

  • Previous clinical nursing experience in an acute care or ambulatory setting.

Schedule & Certifications

  • Required: CVOR Cardiothoracic experience (CABG, Valve replacements, VATS, Robotic chest procedures, etc).
  • Shift: Day Rotation (M-F) - 40/week, 13 Weeks (starting at 6a-7a, 5, 8hr shifts or 4, 10hr shifts).
  • Call Requirements: Up to 3 shifts of call per week, ranging from 8 to 16 hours. One working weekend per 4 weeks, with call shift.
  • Certifications Required: Certified Surgical Technologist - NBSTSA, BLS.
