Staff Nurse RN - ED

About the Role

Under the direction of the Emergency Department director, manager, and charge nurses, this position encompasses the provision and management of emergency patient care through implementation of the nursing process, delegation to and supervision of licensed and unlicensed personnel, and coordination of interdisciplinary care.

Responsibilities

• Implement the nursing process to provide and manage emergency patient care.
• Delegate tasks and supervise licensed and unlicensed personnel.
• Coordinate interdisciplinary care in a high-acuity, fast-paced emergency environment.
• Assess, prioritize, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care using critical thinking and clinical judgment.
• Manage multiple priorities and rapidly changing patient conditions.
• Utilize evidence-based practice for emergency disease processes, trauma, behavioral health emergencies, sepsis, stroke, STEMI, pediatric emergencies, and medical/surgical emergencies.
• Perform emergency nursing interventions, medication administration, patient monitoring, and operate emergency equipment.
• Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with HIPAA, infection prevention, and patient safety standards.
• Collaborate with physicians, advanced practice providers, ancillary departments, EMS personnel, and interdisciplinary teams.
• Provide excellent customer service and resolve conflicts professionally under stressful situations.

Requirements

• Current, unrestricted California Registered Nurse (RN) license.
• Current American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• Current AHA Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification.
• Current AHA Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification or Emergency Nurses Association (ENA) Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course (ENPC).
• NIH Stroke Scale Certification.
• Workplace Violence Prevention (AB508/SB1299) training completed within four (4) months of hire or transfer.
• One year of recent Emergency Department experience preferred.
• Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) preferred.
• Certified Emergency Nurse (CEN) certification preferred.

Skills

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
• Strong organizational, time management, delegation, and prioritization skills.
• Proficiency with electronic medical records (EMR), computerized provider order entry (CPOE), patient tracking systems, and Microsoft Office applications.
• Competency with cardiac and physiologic monitoring equipment, smart infusion pumps, rapid infuser systems, blood warmers, defibrillators, external pacemakers, point-of-care testing equipment, mechanical CPR devices, ventilators, airway management equipment, and ultrasound bladder scanners.
