Staff Nurse - Procedural, Cardiac Catheterization

Responsibilities

• Provides professional nursing care to patients within an assigned unit, diagnosing and treating responses to actual or potential health problems.
• Identifies and discriminates between physical and psycho-social signs and symptoms.
• Selects and performs therapeutic measures essential for executing the nursing regimen.
• Develops, implements, and continuously evaluates nursing care plans for assigned patients.
• Records and maintains nursing care plans and progress notes to ensure continuity of care.
• Interprets and reports patient responses to appropriate members of the health team.
• Collaborates with interdisciplinary health team members to plan comprehensive patient care programs.
• Determines and assigns components of the nursing regimen that may be carried out by allied nursing personnel.
• Provides teaching, guidance, and direction to allied nursing personnel in rendering patient care.
• Participates in defining, implementing, and maintaining standards of nursing practice.
• Engages in departmental and interdisciplinary conferences on policies and procedures affecting nursing practice.
• Contributes to determining conditions, resources, and policies essential for delivering nursing care services.
• Participates in the development and maintenance of a system to evaluate nursing care, practices, and procedures, including personnel evaluation.
• Interprets the philosophy and objectives of the agency and Nursing Department to patients, families, and other groups.
• Maintains professional competence through continuing education and learning experiences.
• Performs other professional nursing activities as delegated by nursing service administration.

Requirements

• A valid New York State license and current registration to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse (RN).
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA), obtained through facility orientation if not already held.

Department Preferences

• Minimum of two (2) years of experience in Cardiology.
• Current certification in Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) through the American Heart Association (AHA), required for the interview process.

Special Note

For assignments in Post-Acute Care only, candidates who have graduated from a NYSED-registered nursing education program and applied for RN licensure may be considered. These unlicensed individuals may practice under the immediate and personal supervision of a licensed RN for up to 90 days pending receipt of a limited permit. Once obtained, the limited permit allows practice under supervision for up to one year from issuance. BLS certification is also required.
