Full-time, 40 hours per week, 8:30 AM–4:00 PM. Preference for 1 year of wound care and ostomy experience; ostomy certification preferred.

About the role

The Staff Nurse provides nursing care requiring specialized knowledge, judgment, and skill derived from the principles of biological, physical, behavioral, social, and nursing sciences.

Responsibilities

  • Assesses, plans, implements, evaluates, and directs family-centered nursing care for individuals or groups of patients within assigned scope of practice.
  • Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care for the physical, psychosocial, educational, and safety needs of patients regardless of age and developmental status.
  • Performs leadership and professional duties, including precepting new employees and mentoring clinical staff.
  • Performs patient-centered care, quality improvement, and safety duties.
  • Participates in staff education on clinically related issues.
  • Supports provider staff and promotes collaboration for efficient operation, quality care, and legendary customer service for pediatric patients using a team approach.
  • Performs evidence-based practice and systems-based practice duties.
  • Performs informatics and technology duties.
  • May be temporarily assigned to other areas within Akron Children’s Hospital based on patient needs requiring similar knowledge and skill.
  • Other duties as required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required or must be obtained within 5 years of hire date.
  • Current Basic Life Support certification from the American Heart Association required.
  • Additional certifications may be required based on assigned department or unit.
  • Valid, active license to practice as a Registered Nurse (RN) in Ohio; must be a Multistate License (MSL) within 90 days of hire for departments providing telenursing services or care to patients outside Ohio.
  • Minimum of one (1) year of relevant experience preferred.
  • Experience working in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word) or similar software required.
  • Experience with an electronic medical record system (e.g., EPIC) preferred.

  • Demonstrated ability to provide leadership, guidance, and motivation to staff with emphasis on collaborative teamwork.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to work under pressure, prioritize, and complete tasks accurately and timely.
  • Experience working with various organizational levels.

Schedule

Full-time, onsite, 40 hours per week (8:30 AM–4:00 PM).
