About the role
The Surgical & Trauma Care Unit at the University of Iowa Health Care provides patient-centered care for trauma and emergency surgical conditions, urologic surgery, and orthopedic surgery. The unit is committed to fostering a supportive work environment where staff can thrive both personally and professionally.
Responsibilities
- Provide care for patients with traumatic injuries, multi-system injuries, acute abdominal emergencies, complex wound management, ostomy creation and management, fistula treatment, hernia repair, post-operative urological procedures, urologic oncology and reconstructive surgeries, complex catheter and urinary diversion management, reconstructive joint surgery, and spine surgery.
- Work in a 60% weekend shift, with 24-hour coverage.
- Work in the Roy Carver Pavilion (RCP).
Requirements
- An Associate’s Degree in Nursing, a Diploma in Nursing, a Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing, Professional Masters of Nursing and Healthcare Practice (MNHP), MSN/Clinical Nurse Leader, or a Master’s Degree in Nursing (MSN, MA) is required.
- Current license to practice nursing in Iowa is required by date of hire.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required.
- Demonstrates excellent interpersonal skills with patients/families, nursing staff, and interdisciplinary team members.
- General computer skills are required, including proficiency in managing multiple databases including Microsoft Excel.
Qualifications
- Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing is highly desired.
- Active enrollment in a BSN program is desirable if a Baccalaureate degree in Nursing is not yet obtained.

- Proficiency in managing multiple databases including Microsoft Excel.
