Staff Nurse - GWVNH
About the role
The Staff Nurse possesses knowledge regarding State, Federal, VA and The Joint Commission guidelines governing long-term care. This person is responsible for supervising employees in all nursing units. The person in this role ensures that individualized quality patient care is provided for all patients and serves as the supervisor for the facility.
Responsibilities
- PATIENT CARE: Assists nursing personnel in the administration for total patient care and serve as Charge Nurse or Medication Nurse for a nursing unit as assigned. Serve as Supervisor for the facility as needed. Provides support to nursing unit/staff throughout the facility. Assess patients as needed and contact Physician, as needed.
- NURSING SUPERVISOR: Serve as Nursing Supervisor for the facility. Provide support to nursing staff throughout the facility. Assess patients as needed and contact Physician, as indicated.
- RESOURCES: Provide direction and guidance in the proper use, care and control of material resources.
- PROBLEM SOLVING: Participate in problem solving affecting the care of patients with complex needs by assisting in the development of individualized patient care plans. Assess progress made toward objective goals. Assist in the development and implementation of policies and procedures designed to affect the efficiency of nursing care
- EMERGENCIES: Respond to emergency situations by initiating emergency procedures and documenting proper records of emergency care provided.
- OTHER: Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- Graduation from an accredited college or university with a degree in Nursing and experience in the care of geriatric patients in a long-term care environment.
- Current, active licensure in good standing to practice as a Registered Nurse in the state of Georgia.
- Current American Heart Association Healthcare Provider BLS/BCLS certification
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in exercising leadership skills.
- Ability to assume charge nurse position in an assigned unit.
- Ability to supervise others and maintain an empathetic understanding of the physically and mentally challenged patient.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
- KNOWLEDGE: Proficient in Microsoft Office and other computer software/databases. Knowledge of AU/GWVNH policies and procedures. Considerable knowledge of principles and practices of nursing as it applies to the geriatric population.
- SKILLS: Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills. Detail-oriented with strong organizational, customer service, and multi-tasking skills.
- ABILITIES: Ability to maintain confidentiality. Ability to access and accurately report changes in patients' condition.
Shift/Salary/Benefits
Shift: Days/M-F
Pay Band: B12
Salary to be commensurate with qualifications of the selected candidate within the established range (generally minimum-midpoint) of the position
