Staff Nurse, General Medicine - Full-Time, Days

About the Role

University of Chicago Medicine is seeking a Staff Nurse (RN) for the General Medicine department at our Hyde Park campus. This is a 100% onsite opportunity based in the greater Chicagoland area. The staff nurse is a registered professional nurse who manages patient-centered, outcome-directed care, utilizing assessment skills to plan, implement, and evaluate care. The nurse assumes primary responsibility and accountability for all patient care personally provided and that provided by those directly under their supervision.

Essential Job Functions

• Utilizes appropriate assessment skills to determine patient needs
• Develops a plan of care for patients whose needs do not require the expertise of a Case Manager, or collaborates with the Case Manager to develop a plan of care for specified patients
• Assumes charge nurse responsibilities as assigned by the Care Center Director or the Patient Care Manager
• Provides support to peers by assisting as needed, being a resource person, and working as a team member
• Assists the Care Center in the development and attainment of goals and objectives
• Uses clinical pathways and/or plans of care incorporating standards of practice
• Assesses own need for professional growth and development and seeks appropriate resources to meet needs
• Attends continuing education programs and participates in program evaluation

Required Qualifications

• Graduate of an NLN-accredited School of Nursing
• Associate Degree in Nursing (BSN degree or higher preferred)
• Associate Degree Nurses must enroll in a BSN program within 6 to 9 months of hire and complete their BSN degree within 30 months (100% tuition reimbursement is provided toward a BSN degree from an accredited program)
• Current Illinois RN license
• BLS certification from the American Heart Association
