Full-time position (40 hours per week), Monday through Friday. Schedule may range from 7:00 AM to 5:30 PM. No weekends or holidays.
About the role
The Staff Nurse provides nursing care requiring specialized knowledge, judgment, and skill derived from the principles of biological, physical, behavioral, social, and nursing sciences. This role focuses on family-centered care for individuals or groups of patients within the assigned scope of practice.
Responsibilities
- Assesses, plans, implements, evaluates, and directs nursing care for patients.
- Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care for the physical, psychosocial, educational, and safety needs of patients regardless of age and developmental status.
- Performs leadership and professional duties, including precepting new employees and acting as a mentor to clinical staff.
- Performs patient-centered care, quality improvement, and safety duties.
- Participates in the development and education of staff members on clinically related issues.
- Supports provider staff and promotes collaboration for efficient operation, quality care, and legendary customer service for pediatric patients using a team approach.
- Performs evidence-based practice and systems-based practice duties.
- Performs informatics and technology duties.
- May be temporarily assigned to other areas within Akron Children's Hospital based on patient needs requiring similar knowledge and skill.
- Other duties as required.
Requirements
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) is required or must be obtained within 5 years from date of hire.
- Current certification in Basic Life Support training from the American Heart Association is required.
- Additional certifications may be required based on the assigned department or unit.
- A valid, active license to practice as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the state of Ohio is required. This must be a Multistate License (MSL). An MSL is required within 90 days of hire for departments providing telenursing services or care to patients outside Ohio.

- Demonstrated ability to provide leadership, guidance, and motivation to other staff members with an emphasis on collaborative teamwork.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent customer service and interpersonal communication skills.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to work well under pressure to prioritize tasks.
- Experience working with various levels within an organization.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word) or similar software is required.
- Experience with electronic medical record systems (e.g., EPIC) or similar software is preferred.
Experience
Minimum of one (1) year of relevant experience is preferred.
