About the role

The University of Iowa Health Care has opened a new psychiatric unit in 2021. This unit includes a 12-bed mood disorder unit and a 13-bed general adult psychiatry unit. The unit features innovative technology and a collaborative position, the Behavioral Health Consultant, aiming to improve patient and team outcomes.

Responsibilities

  • Evidence-based therapeutic modalities such as dialectical behavior therapy, cognitive behavior therapy, and trauma-informed care are utilized.
  • Works in a 32-36 hour per week, 1900-0730 set schedule or rotating if preferred.
  • Rotations include every other weekend and rotating holidays.
  • Location is at Roy Carver Pavilion (University Campus).
  • Shift differentials and premium pay for additional shifts are provided.
  • Provides inpatient differential of $10,000 per year.

Requirements

  • An Associate’s Degree in Nursing, a Diploma in Nursing, a Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing, Professional Masters of Nursing and Healthcare Practice (MNHP), MSN/Clinical Nurse Leader, or a Master’s Degree in Nursing (MSN, MA) is required.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required.
  • Demonstrates excellent interpersonal skills with patients/families, nursing staff, and interdisciplinary team members.
  • General computer skills are required.
  • A current license to practice nursing in Iowa is required by date of hire.

Qualifications

  • Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing or Masters Degree in Nursing is highly desired.
  • If Baccalaureate degree in Nursing is not yet obtained, active enrollment in a BSN program is desirable.
  • Knowledge of university and hospital policies and procedures is desired.

Skills

  • Knowledge of evidence-based therapeutic modalities.
