Job Description
Space is a critical domain, connecting our technologies, our security and our humanity. While others view space as a destination, we see it as a realm of possibilities, where we can do more — we can innovate, invest, inspire and integrate our capabilities to transform the future.
Responsibilities
Being a valued member of the Mechanisms Engineering organization, your responsibilities may include some of the following:
- Lead the direction of other engineers to research, design, analyze, and develop innovative components, assemblies, and systems of varying complexity while assuring sound technical rigor and timely delivery.
- Functionally own mechanical systems and delegate tasks.
- Develop, review, and maintain engineering documents, specifications, and technical analyses, including 3D solid models and 2D drawings.
- Be a member of integrated product teams, reciprocally interacting with other engineers, adjacent functions, suppliers, and stakeholders, to support products through the entire engineering lifecycle.
- Represent the organization in technical and stakeholder reviews.
- Collaborate with procurement, manufacturing, and test personnel to supervise the build and validation of hardware in a production environment.
- Mentor and train team members.
- Occasional travel.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or related discipline, or equivalent experience/combined education with commensurate years of professional experience.
- Extensive experience leading a small technical team in a collaborative and team-based environment using good verbal and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated understanding of structures, mechanisms and materials as well as the application of Mechanical Engineering principles, theories and concepts.
- Robust knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing in accordance with ASME Y14.5 and ability to perform complex detailed part and subsystem tolerance analysis.
- Experience with solid model and drawing creation using 3D computer-aided design software, specification development, vendor interface, parts selection, and configuration control.
- Ability to obtain a security clearance; US citizenship is required.
Desired Skills
- Prior experience with complex mechanical subsystems and associated interfaces with other systems.
- Understanding and ability to apply advanced Mechanical Engineering principles, theories, and concepts.
- Experience with the production, test, and integration of mechanical systems.
- Willingness to mentor junior engineers and ability to be largely autonomous in day-to-day tasking.
- Active security clearance.
