About the role
The Staff Mechanical Engineer is responsible for leading Value Engineering projects and Supplier Transitions focused on cost savings. This role is part of the Global Procurement Engineering Team in Indianapolis and involves cross-functional collaboration with Development, Quality, Compliance, Service, and Operations teams.
Responsibilities
- Develop prototype ideas and get approval on the Design Change Plan
- Perform verification testing and transfer new designs to production
- Collaborate with Development, Quality, Compliance, Service, and Operations teams on design changes
- Ensure project timelines are met and solve project roadblocks as they arise
- Draft and get approval on Qualification Plans for supplier transitions
- Work closely with suppliers on Component Qualification Reports and address technical questions
- Collaborate with Supplier Quality and Procurement teams on supplier selections and qualification activities
- Make print updates/corrections via a Change Order
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or electro-mechanical engineering with 9+ years’ experience, or Master’s degree with 7+ years’ experience
- Experience with SolidWorks (Surface Modeling, Motion, and simulation), Performing Tolerance Analysis, and GD&T
- Technical expertise in machining, die casting, extrusions, stamped metals, plastics, packaging, electronics, machine automation, linear motion
- Ability to travel up to 5% of time, typically to supplier sites
- Ability to lift, move, or carry equipment up to 20lb
Qualifications
- Experience with instrumentation (equipment) design and integration including complex electro-mechanical systems, fluid handling, pneumatics, thermal systems, and/or optical systems
- Proven capability to troubleshoot and improve mechanical and electromechanical systems using formal problem-solving methodology with analytical and statistical methods
- Experience in dealing with design changes in a structured design control/change environment for medical devices
Skills
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
- Knowledge of regulatory requirements and compliance standards
