Duties And Responsibilities
- Coordinate with producers/handlers to schedule inspections
- Schedule and conduct field/facility inspections
- Collect food, product, or environmental samples
- Interview operation personnel and review records
- Document observations and findings
- Conduct unannounced inspections
- Maintain communication with supervisor, colleagues, and clients
- Participate in witness audits and evaluations
- Remain informed of NOP regulatory changes
- Support department with procedural and technical reviews
- Train and evaluate peers as needed
- Provide technical support to other inspectors
- Develop training materials and participate in trainings
- Complete required OC-assigned trainings
- Maintain inspector qualifications
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in agriculture, food science, environmental science, quality management, or related field (or equivalent practical experience)
- Minimum of 2,000 hours (1 year) of relevant inspection experience
- Comprehension of NOP regulations and the National List
- Training documentation demonstrating relevant knowledge and skills

- Driver’s license and reliable transportation
- Computer literacy (electronic inspection platforms, GPS, digital photography, Microsoft Office Suite)
Training Requirements
- Initial basic training on policies, forms, files, web-system
- Standards training as appropriate (NOP, etc.)
- 50 hours of training for inspectors with less than one year of experience
- 10 hours of continued education every year for inspectors with one or more years of experience
- Attendance of Annual OC Meetings and Quarterly Trainings
- Additional trainings as deemed necessary
