About the role

We are seeking a Staff Geologist/Geotechnical Field Professional to support a variety of geotechnical engineering and geological projects for public and private clients throughout the Pacific Northwest. This position will assist with subsurface investigations, construction observation, geological evaluations, and preparation of technical reports.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with subsurface exploration programs, including soil borings, test pits, rock coring, and geologic field investigations
  • Perform field logging of soil and rock materials and document subsurface conditions
  • Conduct construction observation during earthwork, grading, foundation, utility, and pavement construction activities
  • Cookordination and oversight of drilling subcontractors and field exploration activities
  • Collect geotechnical field data and prepare field documentation, logs, and daily reports
  • Assist with slope stability assessments, geologic hazard evaluations, and site characterization studies
  • Support geotechnical engineers and geologists with data analysis, interpretation, and preparation of technical reports
  • Monitor field activities to ensure compliance with project specifications and safety requirements
  • Routine travel throughout eastern Washington and surrounding project areas as needed
  • Represent Apex in a safe and professional manner both internally and externally
  • Prepare technical reports, figures, and project documentation

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Geology, Geological Engineering, Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, or a related field
  • Relevant geotechnical, geological, construction observation, or field investigation experience preferred
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • Strong critical thinking, data evaluation, and organizational skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Positive and enthusiastic attitude with a commitment to delivering outstanding client service
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple assignments while maintaining clear communication with clients and colleagues
  • Valid driver's license required

Qualifications

  • Experience with soil and rock logging, drilling oversight, and subsurface investigations
  • Construction observation and materials testing experience
  • Familiarity with geotechnical engineering principles and geological hazard assessments
  • Experience supporting transportation, energy, industrial, or infrastructure projects
  • Technical writing experience and preparation of geotechnical reports
  • Data compilation, interpretation, and management of field data
  • OSHA 40-hour HAZWOPER and/or construction safety training
  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) or Geologist-in-Training (GIT) certification, or ability to obtain

Pay

Expected Pay Range: $28 USD - $38 USD
