Staff Front End Engineer (Angular React)

About the role

As a Staff Engineer at Capital One, you will be part of a community of technical experts defining the future of banking in the cloud. You will work alongside developers, machine‑learning experts, product managers and people leaders, leading technical contributions, driving innovation, optimizing business outcomes, and promoting a culture of engineering excellence. You will mentor internal talent, recruit, and act as a trusted advisor for key technologies, creating clear communications, code samples, blog posts and other material to share knowledge.

About the team

You will work with the Client Platforms team to define and drive the technical vision for Capital One’s web platform ecosystem. This includes leading architecture and standards for AI‑native web delivery, guiding large‑scale platform migrations, and establishing engineering practices that elevate developer experience for hundreds of contributing engineers enterprise‑wide.

• Define and drive the technical vision for Capital One’s web platform domain, spanning authenticated servicing, marketing/acquisition, and design system capabilities.
• Lead architectural decisions for large‑scale platform integrations and migrations, ensuring long‑term platform health while meeting delivery commitments.
• Establish AI‑native development standards and practices for web platforms, including agentic tooling, machine‑consumable architecture, and AI‑assisted delivery workflows.
• Drive measurable improvement in developer experience and platform NPS across enterprise inner‑source contributors.
• Partner with product, design, and engineering leadership to align technical strategy with business priorities across lines of business.

Basic qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree.
• At least 7 years of experience in enterprise architecture and design patterns on front‑end technologies (Angular or React).
• At least 7 years of software engineering experience.
• At least 5 years of experience in cloud computing.

Preferred qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science or a related field.
• 10+ years of experience in software engineering and solution architecture.
• 10+ years of professional experience coding in commonly used languages such as Java, Python, Go, JavaScript/TypeScript, Swift, etc.
• 10+ years of experience in the full lifecycle of system development, from conception through architecture, implementation, testing, deployment and production support.
• Experience leading technical strategy for large‑scale web platforms serving millions of users.
• Deep expertise in modern web frameworks (React, Angular), design systems, web performance, and accessibility.
• Experience defining and driving engineering standards across distributed, inner‑source contributor models.
• Familiarity with AI‑native development patterns, agentic tooling, or ML‑assisted software delivery.
• Experience leveraging interactive AI tooling to accelerate productivity, utilizing capabilities beyond basic code completion.

Pay

• McLean, VA: $269,100 – $307,200 for Distinguished Engineer.
• New York, NY: $293,600 – $335,100 for Distinguished Engineer.
• Richmond, VA: $244,700 – $279,200 for Distinguished Engineer.
• Other locations: salary range will be based on the location’s pay range and reflected in the offer letter.
• Eligible for performance‑based incentive compensation, which may include cash bonuses and/or long‑term incentives.
