About the role

We are seeking a high-caliber Mechatronics Engineer to serve as a global Subject Matter Expert (SME) in the design and implementation of complex Semiconductor capital equipment and industrial automation. In this pivotal role, you will bridge the gap between mechanical design, electronics, and control systems, providing technical leadership to global engineering teams.

Responsibilities

  • Multidisciplinary Design Leadership: Lead the end-to-end design and implementation of complex mechatronic systems, ensuring seamless integration between mechanical structures, electronics, and control software.
  • System Architecture & Trade-off Analysis: Analyze complex system trade-offs (e.g., latency vs. torque, cost vs. precision) to recommend optimized architectural solutions and deployment strategies.
  • Requirements & Scope Definition: Partner with global customers to interpret technical specifications and develop the Engineering Scope of Work (SOW) required to transition prototype designs into high-volume production.
  • Advanced Calculation & Simulation: Perform rigorous engineering calculations and simulations (kinematics, thermal, or structural) to validate system performance before finalizing technical drawings and schematics.
  • Regulatory & Standards Compliance: Ensure all designs comply with internal procedures, client standards, and international regulations (UL, CE, ISO).
  • Global Technical SME: Serve as the Subject Matter Expert, providing technical direction and mentorship to global engineering teams while driving the adoption of strategic technologies.
  • Supply Chain & Vendor Innovation: Initiate and manage strategic relationships with vendors and technology partners to source cutting-edge mechatronic components.
  • VAVE (Value Analysis/Value Engineering): Lead cross-functional cost-reduction exercises (VAVE) to optimize existing mechatronic designs without sacrificing system reliability.
  • Design for Excellence (DFX): Finalize production-ready designs and GD&T-compliant prints; provide critical engineering support during the manufacturing and assembly phases.
  • Iterative Improvement: Utilize field data and customer feedback to lead the upgrade, repair, or optimization of existing automated machinery.
  • Design Review Leadership: Facilitate and present technical designs to management, cross-functional engineering teams, and customers for critical design reviews (PDR/CDR).
  • Technical Sales Support: Partner with the business development team to provide technical validation and feasibility assessments during the pre-sales phase.
  • Requirements Translation: Lead "Discovery" sessions with clients to extract functional requirements and translate them into technical specifications for the design team.
  • On-Site Consulting & Deployment: Travel to customer sites as needed to lead design reviews, oversee complex system deployments, or troubleshoot critical performance issues.
  • Executive Presentation: Distill complex engineering concepts into clear, actionable insights for both technical and non-technical stakeholders (including C-suite executives).
  • Expectation Management: Act as the primary technical point of contact to manage design changes, scope creep, and technical alignment throughout the project lifecycle.

Qualifications

  • Expertise in Capital Equipment Design: Proven ability to design industrial robotics, automation systems, power transmissions, and electromechanical subassemblies.
  • Manufacturing Fluency: Deep knowledge of machined parts, sheet metal, welded frames, and piping/routing, including selection of materials and secondary finishes.
  • Advanced Analysis: Experience with FEA/CFD analysis and DFMEA methodologies is highly preferred.
  • CAD Mastery: Expert-level use of SolidWorks, Autodesk Inventor, or Siemens NX. Proficiency in 2D production prints and GD&T.
  • System Architecture: Ability to define and provide input on high-level system architecture for complex mechatronic environments.
  • Automation & Programming: Hands-on experience with PLC programming, control logic, and embedded systems (microcontrollers).
  • Electrical Integration: Comprehensive understanding of electrical systems, including sensor/actuator integration and power distribution.
  • Standardization: Familiarity with international regulatory standards, including UL, CE, and ISO.
  • Verification & Validation: Experience executing V&V protocols to ensure system performance and reliability.
  • Systems Troubleshooting: Strong analytical skills for diagnosing and resolving complex, multi-disciplinary engineering failures.

Skills & Competencies

  • Consultative Mindset: Possesses the ability to understand and communicate with clients effectively.
  • Technical Diplomacy: Demonstrates the ability to navigate complex technical discussions with ease.
  • Customer Focus: Understands the importance of the voice of the customer and can translate it into technical specifications.
