Staff Engineer, Mechanical Design
Summary
The Engineering Team is seeking a Mechanical Engineering candidate to join a market-leading Hardware Design Group. Responsibilities include mechanical engineering assignments, proposal development, and project planning.
Detailled Description
- Interfaces with potential customers to help define their needs and present technical proposals.
- Serves as the lead mechanical engineer on business-critical projects.
- Provides design and development feedback on projects and schedules.
- Participates in cross-functional teams in the design and documenting assemblies.
- Develops or executes project plans and documentation of work and test results.
- Applies engineering knowledge and skills to develop new leading-edge technologies.
- Works independently and in a team environment.
- Supports business development teams to assist in winning new business.
- Maintains current on industry trends and future technology and market opportunities.
- Supervises and mentors junior engineers as part of product development activities.
Knowledge/Skills/Competencies
- Engineering Foundation Competencies:
- Proficiency in using 3D solid modeling/MCAD (preferably Creo, current to at least Creo 5).
- Proficiency with Windchill PDM.
- In-depth knowledge and understanding of the business unit and its impact on customer satisfaction, product quality, on-time delivery, and profitability.
- In-depth knowledge and understanding of engineering design, development, and production in a highly dynamic environment.
- Broad knowledge of an electronic manufacturing environment, materials, and processes.
- Familiarity with high-speed PCBA system design and interconnect.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Strong knowledge of electromechanical design requirements and execution for high-end, complex telecommunications or datacenter products, at the PCB, chassis, and rack level.
- Extensive experience in managing design tradeoffs in mechanical design, thermal management, EMC, and hardware design.
- Experience with ECAD/MCAD collaboration and data transfer (IDF).
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Effective communication and leadership skills.
- Tolerance analysis.
- Prior experience with ORv3 racks, structural analysis (FEA), current techniques for mounting extremely large and complex heat sinks, dense cabling including cable backplanes, optical transceivers, Allegro (v 17.2 or greater) for PCB design.
Physical Demands
- Normal office environment.
- Extended periods of sitting and sustained visual concentration.
- Frequent repetitive manual movements (e.g., data entry, using a computer mouse, using a calculator, etc.).
- Occasional travel may be required.
Experience & Education
- 10+ years of relevant experience (15+ years preferred).
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering is preferred.
