Staff Engineer
About the role
The ARM Group LLC is seeking a Staff Engineer with a self-driven and energetic approach who embodies an ownership mentality. This position will collaborate with a dynamic team of multi-disciplined engineers and scientists, project managers, CAD designers, and other staff to service client needs with engineering design and analysis of land development projects primarily throughout the Mid-Atlantic region.
Responsibilities
- Prepare, review, and update design drawings and technical reports.
- Utilize AutoCAD Civil3D design tools and drafting standards to prepare plan sheets.
- Assess and mitigate project risks.
- Perform and/or check technical calculations.
- Use the principles of engineering to develop solutions to permitting, design, and construction challenges.
- Provide technical support for projects including hydrologic and hydraulic analysis and modeling (stormwater detention and water quality BMP design), site grading and design, erosion and sediment control plans, etc.
- Research regulations, codes, zoning ordinances, and other requirements as needed to ensure project compliance.
- Communicate with Local Governmental agencies who review and approve plan submissions.
- Prepare reports, letters, emails, permit applications, etc. for projects.
- Observe, monitor, and document fieldwork while analyzing problems and possible solutions.
- Collaborate with other team members to meet deliverables on projects and obtain further knowledge and experiences.
- Effectively communicate with key stakeholders including clients, project managers, CAD designers, and other technical members of the project team.
- Pro-actively recognize conditions and problems of non-routine nature, develop solutions, and seek guidance when needed.
Requirements
- Base Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering, or related engineering discipline.
- Basic civil engineering knowledge which may include land development, site design, post construction stormwater management design, Erosion and Sediment (E&S) design and permitting and permitting.
- Excellent communication and public speaking skills: articulate, assertive, and confident.
- Strong organizational skills with proven ability to manage multiple, complex tasks.

- Reasonably proficient in MS Office 365, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
- Preferred Requirements:
- Master’s degree in Engineering
- Engineer-in-Training License
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience using the Virginia Stormwater Management Regulations
- Hydrology and Hydraulics (H&H) experience, including surface water runoff modeling, stream response and floodplain interaction.
- Experience with AutoCAD Civil 3D, HydroCAD (or similar stormwater software), HEC-RAS and HEC-HMS.
