Staff Embedded Software Engineer

About the role
In this role, you will be responsible for the implementation and testing of embedded control software for Kearfott’s next generation of guidance and navigation products. Responsibilities include participation in requirements definition, software design and implementation, peer review, software test and validation, and generation of supporting documentation. The Staff Engineer is a highly experienced professional who leads complex projects, provides technical expertise, drives innovation, mentors junior engineers, and collaborates with cross-functional teams to ensure compliance with industry standards and enhance engineering processes.
Responsibilities
- Design, analyze, test, and optimize embedded software solutions for guidance and navigation products
- Participate in requirements definition, software design, and implementation
- Conduct peer reviews and software validation/testing
- Generate supporting documentation for software development processes
- Mentor junior engineers and collaborate with cross-functional teams
- Ensure compliance with industry standards and contribute to strategic engineering initiatives
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or Electrical Engineering
- Minimum 7+ years of embedded or control systems programming experience
- Strong development skills with C/C++ programming languages
- Experience with debugging strategies for embedded systems, including emulators and logic analyzers
- Ability to collaborate with a team of engineers and support staff in a laboratory setting
- Strong engineering writing and documentation skills
- Must be a US Citizen
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with additional programming languages such as Python
- Knowledge of Ada (a plus)
- Real-time application design experience
- Model-based software development using tools such as SCADE, Simulink, or MATLAB
- Familiarity with microcontrollers and digital signal processors
- Ability to interpret electronics schematics
- Experience with inertial navigation concepts
- Experience with DO-178C software certification process
All work is to be performed on-site at our Pine Brook, NJ facilities.
Pay
In compliance with pay transparency requirements, the salary range for this role in New Jersey is $153,000 - $167,000 annually. This is not a guarantee of compensation or salary, as the final offer may vary based on job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and internal consistency.
