Staff Designer - Columbus

About the role

The Staff Designer is responsible for designing and drafting civil engineering projects under the guidance of assigned staff. This includes site layout, utility design and profiles, erosion and sediment control, and stormwater management. The role involves the production of civil engineering documents while adhering to client requirements, code requirements, and site adjustments.

Responsibilities

• Perform CAD drafting of engineering designs and preparation of final engineering plans;
• Manage the production process to include research, and completing the technical design tasks to result in high quality deliverables to internal and external clients;
• Aid in preparing construction documents for public and/or private projects from conceptual design to final design, under the direction and supervision of a professional engineer;
• Establish good communication and working relationships with team members and clients;
• Show strong desire to learn, ask questions, and maximize knowledge in the field of Civil Engineering;
• Be willing to do what is required for the successful completion of projects;
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications, Education, & Experience

• Strong knowledge of CAD and other related design tools;
• Develop baseline knowledge of state and local regulations;
• Required: Three (3) years of experience with AutoCAD in civil engineering field with a demonstrated proficiency in the layout, drafting and design with engineers' oversight;
• PREFERRED: Preliminary Site Layout Design experience;
• Responsive and results-oriented individual that is willing to learn;
• Demonstrated ability to develop solid working relationships with other team members;
• Demonstrated ability to schedule work to meet deadlines.

Physical Requirements

• Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer;
• Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times;
• Must be able to travel to various project sites;
• Must be able to access and navigate job sites and construction areas.
