Staff Connectivity Engineer
Job Summary
Lambda, The Superintelligence Cloud, is seeking a Staff Connectivity Infrastructure Engineer to drive and support the Physical Infrastructure Cabling Standards (PICS) across all of Lambda’s global data centers. The ideal candidate will have 10+ years of experience in data center cabling infrastructure engineering, connectivity architecture, and physical layer design. Key responsibilities include developing and maintaining PICS documentation, supporting internal teams, leading innovation, project deployment, and continuous improvement.
About the Role
The position requires presence in the San Francisco/San Jose office 4 days per week. The designated work from home day is currently Tuesday. The successful candidate will report directly to the Principal of Data Center Architecture and Standards.
Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain all PICS documentation, including Basis of Design (BoD) specifications, component-level details, and operational and installation SOP/MOP’s.
- Ensure adherence to PICS Standards enabling optimal connectivity performance, scalability, flexibility and continuity within our entire global DC Infrastructure fleet.
- Develop and publish dashboards that broadcast our business operations, key Metrics & KPI’s, Project status and issues that impact our area can be resolved quickly and effectively.
- Support Internal Teams — providing guidance and support to our HPC Architecture, Hardware & Network Engineering, PMO, Supply Chain and Data Center Operations Teams.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with Manufacturers and Suppliers to help ensure supply chain continuity, cost effectiveness and quality assurance.
- Review and develop the detailed BOM’s with Suppliers to ensure our components are built to PICS Standards and they meet our exact connectivity specification requirements.
- Stay current with industry trends, emerging cabling technologies, and new data center infrastructure solutions. Encourage the adoption of new technologies and keen practices that can improve upon PICS and keep us at the forefront of industry trends.
- Drive the development, qualification, and implementation of new connectivity products and standards into production (NPI).
- Participate in design reviews and page-turn sessions, providing technical guidance for cabling infrastructure specifications in new data center builds.
- Aid in deploying connectivity components and PICS standards across global data center projects.
- Conduct regular site visits to assess construction progress, document findings, and resolve PICS-related issues.
- Ensure consistent quality of installations and infrastructure by performing QC/QA to PICS best practices across global deployments.
- Track costs, time to install, capacity utilization and connectivity performance to identify methods to optimize efficiency and effectiveness and reduce costs.
- Contribute to process-improvement initiatives and participate in team knowledge-sharing to advance operating efficiency and alignment with industry best practices.
Requirements
- 10+ years of experience in Data Center cabling infrastructure engineering, connectivity architecture and physical layer design.
- Deep knowledge of fiber-optic and copper cabling systems, termination methods, cable plant architecture, and high-density interconnect solutions.
- Hands-on experience developing installation standards, component specifications, and cabling architectures for hyperscale or large enterprise environments.
- Strong vendor, OEM, and supply chain engagement experience.
- Ability to lead highly technical, cross-functional initiatives involving engineering, construction, and operations.
- Strong documentation, analytical, and communication skills.
- Familiarity with industry standards (TIA/EIA, BICSI, IEC).
- Ability to read, create, and modify technical drawings (AutoCAD, Revit, Bluebeam, or equivalent).
Qualifications
- Experience with AI/HPC cluster architectures and GPU-dense deployments.
- Nice to have: Experience with NPI, qualification testing, or component engineering, industry certifications (e.g., RCDD, DCDC, CFHP, BICSI), experience with optical test equipment, inspection, and fiber QA workflows, ability to influence stakeholders and drive customer-focused outcomes across global programs.
Benefits
- Salary Range: $349K - $407K
- Compensation Range: Based on market data and other factors.
