Role Summary
We are seeking an experienced Staff Battery Engineer specializing in pouch and prismatic cell design to lead our cell development initiatives. The ideal candidate will drive product design from concept through pilot production and manufacturing scale-up.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform design, optimization, and validation of high-energy pouch cells and prismatic cells
- Drive decision making in material selection, electrode design, stack configuration, N/P balancing and safety trade-offs
- Analyze large multi-variant experiment datasets with advanced tools to derive design-performance correlations
- Lead pouch/prismatic cell design and development projects from concept to production-ready products
- Drive design for manufacturability (DFM) and design for assembly (DFA) initiatives
- Collaborate with product + business teams to translate product requirements into battery performance targets and qualification plans
- Work closely with manufacturing and automation teams to ensure scalability, yield, and transfer to pilot / production lines
- Write technical reports, modeling insights, and decision frameworks for executive and customer visibility
- Interface with cross-functional teams including Materials, Process, Quality, and Manufacturing
- Mentor junior engineers and provide technical leadership across projects
Required Qualifications
- PhD or MSc in chemical engineering/Electrochemistry/chemistry/material science and engineering
- More than 3 years experiences in the battery manufacturing or related industry
- More than 8 years of practical experience from Li-ion and Li-S battery cell development
- Extensive experience in cell design and development of Li-ion and Li-S cells
- Extensive experience with large-scale battery fabrication and validation
- Extensive experience working on OEM projects for Li-ion and Li-S battery cell/module business
- Extensive hands-on experience in pouch cell product design and development
- Prismatic cell design preferred
- Proven track record of transitioning battery products from R&D to pilot/mass production
- Strong expertise in data analysis tools (R, Python, JMP, Minitab)
- Deep understanding of cell mechanical design principles and manufacturing processes
- Proven experience performing cell data analytics, degradation modeling, and cycle/performance correlation
- Strong background in cell safety, formation, and performance trade-space analysis for high-demand applications
Physical Requirements
- Must be able to lift 50 lbs.
- Be able to work in a lab standing up to 8 hours each day.
Compensation
The expected base salary range for this position is between $141,100.00 - $211,700.00. The level of pay within the range will depend on a variety of job-related factors that may include location, relevant prior experience and/or education, or particular skills and expertise.
