Staff Backend Engineer

About the role

TechTree is recruiting on behalf of a fast-growing AI company building professional-grade systems for insurers — software that can read, reason, decide, and act inside real workflows over long time horizons. Products are already in production with leading insurers, driving measurable outcomes and expanding across functions. They're looking for strong backend engineers who love building reliable systems around fragmented, high-value data. As part of the Core Backend team, you'll work on the systems at the center of the business: designing services, data models, pipelines, and evaluation loops. The goal isn't just cleaner data — it's an intelligence layer that makes better, faster, and more explainable decisions.

What You'll Own

• Business-critical backend infrastructure, end to end
• Services, data models, pipelines, and evaluation loops at the center of the product
• Reliability and explainability of an intelligence layer used in real decision-making

What We're Looking For

• 8+ years of software engineering experience
• Strong fundamentals in system design, debugging, and problem-solving
• Python (main stack), though open to strong candidates from other OO backgrounds
• Experience with serverless technologies (Lambda, EC2), async workflows, and cloud environments
• Comfort with relational databases, ideally PostgreSQL
• High ownership, proactive communication, and comfort with experimentation
• Based in the United States

• Experience with LLMs/generative AI or distributed systems
