The onsite requirement for this role is 4x/week and one of those days at UCLA School of Law is a possibility. Position Summary The Senior Staff Attorney is based at ImmFam's office on the campus of RFK Community Schools (701 S Catalina). This position is the clinic's key community-based lawyer. They take primary responsibility for the free and confidential legal consultations to RFK students and family members the Clinic provides, and coordinate and supervise law students on these consultations. The majority of the Clinic's consultations involve immigration matters, but some respond to other related legal problems facing immigrant families, including workers' rights, housing, access to public benefits, and encounters with law enforcement. Many of these consultations will involve limited scope representation and/or preparing warm referrals to partner organizations. The Senior Staff Attorney will also be responsible for the Clinic's docket: organizing the waitlist, working closely with the Clinic Director in making decisions about case selection for full representation, and assisting with the legal needs of the Clinic's existing clients after the law students have wrapped up. Depending on interest/capacity, they may also take a select number of cases to provide full representation and/or supervise the Clinic's junior staff attorney's work on individual cases. Finally, the Senior Staff Attorney will work closely with the rest of the Clinic's RFK-based staff, including the Office Manager, Clinic junior staff attorney, legal assistant, undergraduate inters, and Director of Social Work. Along with the Clinic Director, they will ensure that the office is a collaborative and nurturing workspace for the Clinic's staff, students, clients, and school-based partners. Salary & Compensation UCLA provides a full pay range. Actual salary offers consider factors, including budget, prior experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business considerations. Qualifications Minimum of two years of legal practice experience (Required) 5+ years of legal practice experience (Preferred) Demonstrated experience with or substantive knowledge of immigration law. (Required)Demonstrated experience and interest in working with low-wage workers, immigrants, refugees, and/or other vulnerable populations (Required)Demonstrated skill in working independently, organizing work flow, establishing productive work environment, and following through on assignments with minimal direct supervision. (Required)Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively to individuals and groups from a variety of social contexts, including members of immigrant communities. (Preferred)Excellent organizational skills and ability to work effectively under conditions of heavy workload, frequent distractions, and deadlines. (Required)Strong interpersonal skills and ability to exchange ideas, information, and opinions with others to arrive jointly at decisions, conclusions, or solutions. (Required) Education, Licenses, Certifications & Personal Affiliations Juris Doctor (JD) Degree or other law degree from a State Bar-accredited or American Bar Assocation-approved law school. (Required) Must be a member in good standing of the State Bar of California and maintain that standing through continuing legal education credits required by the State Bar.
