Staff Attorney III

About the Role
The Kentucky Public Pensions Authority (KPPA) is seeking a Staff Attorney III for the Division of Advocacy. KPPA administers pension and health insurance benefits for nearly 444,000 state and local government employees, state police officers, and nonteaching staff of local school boards and regional universities. This position involves litigating disability and other administrative cases, appellate litigation, and collaborating with a team of skilled litigators in a collegial environment. KPPA provides access to up-to-date legal research tools and opportunities to attend relevant continuing legal education (CLE) programs.
Responsibilities
- Litigate KRS Chapter 13B administrative hearings, primarily involving disability cases
- Handle appellate litigation and collections
- Perform complex legal research and writing
- Provide legal advice and training on a variety of agency issues
- Review divorce decrees, powers of attorney, guardianship and conservatorship orders, and qualified domestic relations orders
Requirements
- Must have two years of experience as a licensed attorney in the practice of law
- Must be admitted to practice law and in good standing in the Commonwealth of Kentucky or comply with Kentucky Supreme Court Rules (SCR 2.111, 2.112, or 2.117)
- Must maintain required licensure, certification, or credentials for the duration of employment
