Staff Attorney - Department of Health

About the role

The Vermont Department of Health is seeking a Staff Attorney with at least three years of experience to join its legal team. Reporting directly to the Department's General Counsel, the Staff Attorney will provide legal advice, contract and grant negotiation, policy analysis, development, and guidance, oversee litigation, advise on legal compliance, and assist with other legal projects.

Responsibilities

• Provide legal advice on complex local, state, and federal laws
• Contract and grant negotiation
• Policy analysis, development, and guidance
• Oversee litigation
• Advising on legal compliance
• Other legal projects and needs, as assigned

Requirements

• At least three years of experience as a Staff Attorney
• Broad legal experience
• Demonstrated commitment to public health or human services

Qualifications

• Law degree from an accredited law school
• Admitted to practice law in Vermont
• Experience working in a public health or human services setting

Skills

• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to manage a diverse workload in a fast-paced environment

Pay

Salary and benefits will be based upon qualifications and experience in accordance with the State of Vermont Attorney Pay Plan.
