Staff Attorney-Criminal Defense Practice (Lateral)
Responsibilities
- Zealously advocate for individuals charged with misdemeanor and felony offenses in the Tulsa Criminal Courts.
- Appear in various proceedings including arraignments, hearings, and trials in criminal courts.
- Provide comprehensive representation in collaboration with attorneys and advocates in other practice areas to avoid or mitigate enmeshed consequences.
- Litigate and confidently engage in skillful negotiations with judges, prosecutors, and other actors within the systems our clients navigate.
- Co-counsel cases in other venues (Juvenile Court, Civil Court, etc.) as necessary to provide the most effective client-focused representation.
Qualifications
- At least 3 years of practice experience in the field of criminal defense.
- J.D. from an American Bar Association accredited law school.
- Membership in good standing to the Oklahoma bar or eligibility for admission to the Oklahoma Bar via reciprocity admission on motion (requires continuous practice of law for at least three years of the five years immediately preceding application for admission).
- Demonstrate a commitment to defending indigent individuals in the north Tulsa community charged with criminal offenses.
- Excellent research, writing, and courtroom advocacy skills.
- Ability and desire to work collaboratively in interdisciplinary teams.
- Experience and interest in working in and with racially and socioeconomically oppressed communities.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Pay
Salary commensurate with experience + medical, dental, vision, life, FSA, and 401K with 4% employer contribution.
