Staff Attorney

About the role

Legal Services of the Hudson Valley (LSHV) is seeking a full-time Staff Attorney to work in our Kingston office. The ideal candidate will provide legal representation and advocacy for low-income individuals and families in matters related to public benefits, including Medicaid, SNAP, Family Assistance, Safety Net Assistance, and unemployment benefits.

Responsibilities

• Individual case work
• Representation at administrative hearings
• Litigation in state and federal courts
• Education and outreach efforts directed at community members, advocates, and services providers

Requirements

• Admission to the New York State Bar or eligibility to be admitted in New York State
• Understanding of the nature and dynamics of housing and benefits
• Ability to handle a large caseload
• Excellent people skills
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to work effectively with a diverse group of stakeholders

Qualifications

• Two or more years of legal experience preferred
• Demonstrated commitment to serving low-income persons
• Bi-lingual English/Spanish proficiency preferred

Skills

Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills are essential. The successful candidate should be able to manage a caseload, communicate effectively, and work collaboratively with a variety of stakeholders.

Pay

$78,850.00 - $145,784.00 Annually, DOE, with excellent benefits

Schedule

Full-time, with the possibility of working from home up to two days per week after a probationary period.
