About the role

We are seeking a full-time Staff Attorney to provide high-quality legal services to families and individuals in Knox County facing eviction or other housing-related legal challenges. A demonstrated commitment to exceptional legal work and equal access to justice is required. Candidates should exhibit cultural awareness and empathy towards the communities we serve while embodying the mission and values of LAET with integrity and courage. Funding for this position is currently available for one year. Continuation of the position beyond that period is contingent upon the availability of additional grant funding.

Responsibilities

  • Provide legal representation to clients facing eviction or other housing-related legal challenges
  • Advocate for clients' rights and interests in court and through alternative dispute resolution processes
  • Collaborate with community partners to address systemic issues affecting housing stability
  • Develop and implement strategies to increase access to legal services for underserved populations
  • Conduct intake assessments and case management for clients
  • Engage in outreach and education initiatives to promote understanding of housing law and legal options

Requirements

  • J.D. degree from an accredited law school
  • Admission to practice law in Tennessee
  • Experience working with low-income clients and/or in civil legal services
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Commitment to social justice and serving marginalized communities
