About the Role
A Staff Assistant supports professional staff in monitoring, discipline, and other duties related to student support.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent
- Knowledge of English language structure, composition, and grammar
- Ability to communicate effectively with students, staff, parents, and administrators
- Ability to build and maintain positive working relationships and rapport
- Strong organizational and planning skills
- Ability to work regularly at assigned hours with lawful leave rights
- Ability to carry out tasks with limited supervision
- Understanding and compliance with confidentiality protocols
- Understanding of assessment components and professional/ethical practice
- Ability to perform basic clerical tasks and operate office machinery
- Knowledge of basic computer skills
- Ability to maintain student discipline in all school settings
Responsibilities
- Monitor students in all school settings (cafeteria, hallways, library, classrooms, study halls, on/off buses, etc.)
- Complete clerical duties such as copying, assembling, laminating, and answering phones as assigned
- Other duties as assigned by classroom teacher or building administrator
- Obtain CPR and basic first aid certification
- Provide a safe, secure, and positive educational environment through supervision and intervention
- Attend and complete staff development trainings and meetings as required
- Practice appropriate hygienic precautions for students, self, and the work environment
- Demonstrate ability to work with school-age students
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand, bend, stoop, sit, lift, reach, communicate (vision, hearing, and speech), and carry sufficient weight to perform duties safely
- Ability to independently move within school buildings and office areas
- Ability to travel to and from assigned work locations without employer support
- Ability to independently read, write, speak, and comprehend English
