Staff Accountant

About the role

The Staff Accountant supports the Controller in executing daily and monthly accounting functions. This role is essential to maintaining accurate financial records, preparing reports, and ensuring compliance with tax and audit requirements. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, collaborative, and committed to upholding the financial integrity of the hotel.

Responsibilities

• Assist in preparing reports that summarize, forecast, and analyze hotel business activity and financial position.
• Assist with cashier audits and ensure accuracy.
• Complete Daily Income Journal Reconciliation balancing to PMS / POS Reports.
• Prepare month-end journal entries for Assistant Controller / Controller review.
• Provide support for accounts payable during vacancies or absences.
• Perform various accounting office tasks as assigned.
• Distribute weekly General Ledger detail reports to department managers.
• Review and reconcile contract labor in Work Records if applicable.
• Process individual Travel Agent commissions and submit to TACS / AP.
• Balance A/P Open Items report weekly before check runs.
• Review Tax Exemptions.
• Adhere to scheduled work hours.
• Maintain a cooperative and professional demeanor.
• Follow hotel policies, procedures, and safety protocols.
• Keep work area clean and organized.
• Attend required training and meetings.
• Promote guest satisfaction.
• Report unsafe conditions, accidents, or guest complaints promptly.
• Comply with all applicable laws and hotel standards.

Qualifications

• A minimum of 2 years of related progressive experience in related field.
• Experience working in hospitality industry preferred.

Pay

For applicants who will be working in NYC, the anticipated compensation range for the position is $22.00 to $25.00 per hour. The salary offered to a successful candidate will be dependent on several factors that may include but are not limited to years of experience within the job, years of experience within the required industry, education, work location, etc.
