SSCI Engineering Technician
About the role
The SSCI Engineering Technician is a technical execution role within the Site Systems & Continuous Improvement Engineering (SSCI) organization. SSCI is responsible for advancing Continuous Improvement, Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS), Total Productive Maintenance (TPM), Facilities, Product Failure Analysis & Repair, Sustainability, and other site systems that support operational excellence, customer satisfaction, and scalable business growth.
Responsibilities
- Continuous Improvement & Operational Excellence Support
- Data collection, observation, implementation support, and follow-through activities
- Shop-floor observation activities, time studies, process evaluations, value stream mapping, rapid improvement events, and other improvement efforts
- Support productivity, throughput, quality, cost reduction, and operational improvement projects
- Collection and analysis of data used to identify, prioritize, validate, and sustain improvements
- Product Failure Analysis, Repair & Field Service Support
- Product inspection, troubleshooting, teardown, repair/rebuild, testing, documentation, and failure analysis for returned or field-affected products
- Prepare failure analysis reports, field service reports, and investigation summaries that clearly communicate findings, conclusions, and improvement opportunities
- Support occasional field service activities, customer recovery efforts, product evaluations, and on-site technical investigations
- Support product failure analysis, repair, and field service activities as strategic business functions by identifying improvement opportunities and contributing to customer retention and business growth
- Participate in customer-facing activities as needed to support investigations and recovery efforts
- Site Systems Support
- Support implementation and sustainment of site system initiatives including Environmental, Health & Safety, Total Productive Maintenance, Facilities, Sustainability, Operational Excellence, and the IDEX Green Initiative and related sustainability efforts
- Audit, assessment, inspection, and improvement activities associated with SSCI priorities
- Support improvement and reliability initiatives associated with equipment and facility systems while maintaining focus on system improvement
- Technical Execution for SSCI Initiatives
- Support Engineering, Operations, Quality, Supply Chain, and other business functions through SSCI priorities and initiatives
- Develop and update technical documentation when directly supporting Continuous Improvement, Product Failure Analysis & Repair, field service, or site system priorities
- Support implementation activities associated with approved improvement projects and business initiatives
Qualifications
- Associate degree in a technical field preferred, or equivalent combination of education, training, and hands-on technical experience
- Experience in manufacturing, engineering, maintenance, technical service, product repair, failure analysis, equipment support, or similar hands-on technical environments preferred
- Strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting aptitude, with the ability to identify issues, investigate causes, and support practical corrective actions
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, procedures, work instructions, specifications, test requirements, and basic product or equipment documentation
- Ability to inspect, troubleshoot, disassemble, repair/rebuild, test, and document findings on products, equipment, tooling, or process-related issues
- Ability to safely use hand tools, measurement tools, test equipment, computers, and standard manufacturing or office equipment
- Ability to collect, organize, analyze, and communicate technical information clearly through reports, verbal updates, and cross-functional discussions
- Practical, improvement-oriented mindset with strong attention to detail, teamwork, communication, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work independently on assigned tasks while knowing when to escalate issues, ask questions, or involve Engineering, Quality, Operations, or other stakeholders
- Experience with Continuous Improvement, Lean Manufacturing, Theory of Constraints, Product Failure Analysis & Repair, field service support, equipment reliability, Total Productive Maintenance, Environmental, Health & Safety programs, or sustainability initiatives is preferred
