SSAT/SHSAT Instructor - Flushing
About the role
Founded in 1876, The Boys’ Club of New York (BCNY) is a youth development organization with the mission to empower boys and young men, ages 7 to 21, by providing effective programs and a supportive community. BCNY provides evidence-based programs to address the evolving social, emotional, health, creative, educational, and vocational needs of our members in meaningful, lasting ways. Responsibilities
- Effectively manage robotics classroom for 8 to 12 boys or young men
- Engage members in fun and relevant lessons based on established curriculum and specific classroom needs
- Develop curriculum (project-based learning activities) tailored to introduce members to robotics and 3D printing
- Reinforce positive student behavior and clubhouse rules; maintain a positive relationship with all members, families and staff
- Craft the robotics curriculum for each member group (7-9; 9-12; 13 and up), taking into consideration scaffolding
- Communicate with Education Director to discuss member progress, attendance, and concerns
- Serve as coach of at least one FLL team and one 3D printing team
- Attend required department meetings and professional development trainings
- Other duties as assigned
Requirements
Education and/or Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred
- 2+ years of experience in teaching test preparation and SSAT preparation in particular
- Relevant subject matter expertise and experience working with diverse population of males
- Documentation of high achievement on both sections of the SSAT and/or similar standardized tests
- Strong communication and presentation skills
- Active and effective classroom management skills
- Able to drive students at all levels to perform their best
- Strong ability to effectively plan and deliver program content
