SSA and ASP

About the Role

Student Support Associates and After School Mentors ("SSA/ASP") lead students in fun, engaging, and developmentally aligned after-school programming for Transitional Kindergarten (TK)–8th-grade students. This includes daily academic, recreation, and enrichment activities. The position is full-time and school-site-based, with morning and afternoon hours (approximately 40 hours per week, Monday–Friday: 9:30 AM – 6:00 PM). Student Support Aids average 25–29 hours per week, and After School Mentors average 11–15 hours per week, not to exceed 40 hours per week.

Responsibilities

Classroom Support

• Assist the Lead Teacher in ongoing student progress and achievement assessment by collecting and reporting academic data.
• Help tailor instruction using data to meet individual students' academic and social needs.
• Support and create a strong classroom culture through CWC’s social-emotional learning focus.
• Assist with social-emotional learning in classrooms and the yard.
• Provide intervention support for struggling learners and English Language Learners.

Outdoor Play Support

• Support the creation of a strong play culture aligned with CWC’s social-emotional learning focus.
• Provide an environment conducive to students' intellectual, physical, social, and emotional development.
• Establish and enforce rules of conduct; supervise students on the playground, athletic fields, and recess/lunch areas.
• Collaborate with other Student Support Associates to plan engaging physical activities.
• Demonstrate skills being taught and assist students in performing them.
• Teach safety rules for activities in playgrounds, athletic fields, and recess/lunch areas.
• Create and maintain a safe environment for students during lunch and recess.
• Support safe bathroom practices during outdoor play.
• Assist with fitness assessments and perform annual fitness testing for 5th-grade students.
• Create and facilitate social-emotional learning lessons during outdoor play.

Individualized Student Support (RSP and Behavioral Intervention)

• Support instruction for individuals or small groups of students with special needs.
• Assist students in prescribed learning activities.
• Support students with behavioral challenges in and out of the classroom.
• Monitor student behavior and use approved behavior management techniques.
• Implement documented therapy plans for Behavior Intervention treatment.
• Monitor, observe, and report students' behavioral data.
• Assist enrichment teachers by adapting activities for students with special needs and developing modifications for I.E.P. and 504 plans.
• Provide adaptive support with eating and toileting as needed.

School Culture Support and Collaboration

• Support the creation and maintenance of a strong school culture through social-emotional learning.
• Collaborate with other Student Support Associates on school-wide community events.
• Communicate and engage with students’ families, colleagues, and other stakeholders.
• Participate as an active community member to uphold the school’s mission and guiding principles.
• Maintain professionalism by meeting deadlines and commitments.
• Facilitate conflict resolution strategies with students.
• Participate in internal and external professional development activities.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the School Leadership Team.

After School Mentor Responsibilities

• Monitor students’ arrival and departure to the out-of-school time program.
• Track student attendance using appropriate programs.
• Plan, organize, and implement creative indoor activities, including mindfulness and study habits programs.
• Supervise assigned students to ensure safety and program effectiveness.
• Oversee academic, homework, and enrichment activities.
• Support the student snack and supper program data tracking.
• Attend staff meetings, school meetings, and training as required.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Schedule

Full-time, school-site-based position with hours approximately 40 hours per week (Monday–Friday: 9:30 AM – 6:00 PM). Student Support Aids average 25–29 hours per week, and After School Mentors average 11–15 hours per week, not to exceed 40 hours per week.
