About the role
At Jefferson Lab, you’ll champion cutting-edge science and operational excellence while shaping the future of discovery. Join us and make your mark – where excellence meets purpose, and great minds truly matter.
Responsibilities
- Exercise considerable latitude in determining methods and approach; design, develop, and test Superconducting and Normal Conducting Radio Frequency (SRF/NCRF) Cavities and their RF systems supporting major Jefferson Lab milestones, including CEBAF, the Electron‑Ion Collider (EIC) project, and various SRF/RF programs.
- Conduct R&D, cavity‑beam interaction studies, RF structure impedance calculations; apply high‑performance computing and machine learning (ML) to SRF/RF cavity system optimization; explore new materials and technologies of special interest in accelerator RF systems.
- Lead prototype and production work of cavity and RF system components; participate in RF measurements; help translate cutting‑edge SRF/RF technology into impactful solutions for material science, industrial, and medical sectors.
- Translate accelerator physics goals into system requirements; perform electromagnetic design of SRF/RF cavity systems while providing dedicated support for the EIC and other Jefferson Lab projects.
- Lead, participate, and interface with engineering teams for prototyping, testing, and RF measurement of cryomodules, RF cavities, and components such as RF windows and HOM loads.
- Assist CEBAF operation performance improvement; perform R&D on present and future JLab projects; support the technology development/transfer program for accelerators in industrial applications.
- Leverage emerging computer‑science technologies for advanced design and simulation of SRF/RF systems to achieve high‑performance, high‑reliability, and efficient accelerator operation.
- Initiate internally funded (e.g., LDRD) and externally funded project proposals that maintain the lab’s core competence in SRF/RF technology and align with department and division priorities.
