SRE Architect
About the role
Mphasis is seeking a visionary SRE Architect to define, champion, and lead enterprise-scale Site Reliability Engineering practices across its global delivery organization. This is a strategic, principal-level role at the intersection of cloud architecture, operational excellence, and technical thought leadership.
Responsibilities
Define, champion, and lead enterprise-wide SRE operating model, including toil elimination frameworks, error budget policies, and reliability governance structures across multi-tenant, multi-cloud environments.
Architect resilience patterns for mission-critical platforms spanning OpenShift on-premise, AWS, and hybrid-cloud topologies, with focus on fault isolation, graceful degradation, and zero-downtime deployments.
Define and institutionalize SLI / SLO / SLA hierarchies at organizational scale; translate business risk appetite into measurable reliability targets with clear escalation contracts.
Lead the design of next-generation CI/CD and GitOps pipelines; establish blueprint architectures using GitLab, Argo CD, Tekton, Terraform, and Ansible for repeatable, auditable delivery.
Establish a Chaos Engineering practice – defining experiment frameworks, blast-radius controls, and GameDay runbooks – to proactively validate system resilience before incidents occur.
Architect observability platforms integrating distributed tracing, structured logging, and advanced metric pipelines (OpenTelemetry, Prometheus, Grafana, Datadog, Sumo Logic) to enable proactive anomaly detection.
Drive platform engineering strategy: define internal developer platforms (IDPs), golden paths, and self-service capabilities that reduce cognitive load for application engineering teams.
Architect cost-optimized, auto-scaling, and FinOps-aligned cloud infrastructure on AWS (preferred) and hybrid environments; lead cloud cost governance programs including Savings Plans, resource tagging taxonomy, and rightsizing automation.
Design and enforce data security and access control frameworks using AWS HSM, IAM, Secrets Manager, and zero-trust network principles; engage enterprise security architects to address vulnerabilities surfaced by internal and external audits.
Define backup, replication, and disaster recovery architectures for critical data and application components; own RTO/RPO targets and validate them through regular DR rehearsals.
Provide architectural direction for API management, data streaming pipelines, and integration layers (ServiceNow, VersionOne, Sumo Logic), ensuring operational observability end-to-end.
Lead capacity management and elastic infrastructure design to accommodate irregular traffic bursts; model growth scenarios and translate them into provisioning and scaling strategies.
Maintain data integrity and access control using AWS security tools and services such as HSM, IAM, etc.; develop tools to monitor AWS billing, generate cost-related reports, and implement cost optimization strategies.
Build and lead a Center of Excellence (CoE) for SRE within Mphasis – defining standards, runbooks, training curricula, and maturity assessment frameworks adopted across delivery accounts.
Develop and publish SRE Maturity Models that enable account teams to benchmark client environments and design targeted transformation roadmaps.
Drive analyst and advisory relationships (Gartner, Forrester) to position Mphasis SRE capabilities in market conversations and RFP responses.
Engage at VP and C-level with strategic clients to articulate SRE value propositions, define transformation roadmaps, and co-create solutions that differentiate Mphasis in competitive pursuits.
Lead technical solutioning in large, complex SRE pursuits – developing reference architectures, staffing models, pricing frameworks, and outcome-based SLAs for client proposals.
Conduct SRE maturity assessments and architectural reviews for prospective and existing accounts; translate findings into actionable, prioritized recommendations.
Collaborate with account management and practice leadership to identify account expansion opportunities grounded in demonstrated reliability improvements.
Define role profiles, competency frameworks, and interview evaluation kits for SRE roles across levels (Associate, Senior, Staff, Principal); lead calibration sessions to ensure consistent hiring quality.
Mentor and coach senior SRE engineers; create structured learning paths, stretch assignments, and cross-functional rotation programs that accelerate capability growth.
Champion a blameless postmortem culture; institutionalize RCA disciplines, shared incident learnings, and a Wheel of Misfortune program across delivery accounts.
Partner with L&D and HR to design SRE certification pathways, internal hackathons, and Reliability Champions programs that embed SRE thinking into application engineering teams.
Qualifications
B.S. / M.S. in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field – or equivalent demonstrated experience.
15+ years of experience in infrastructure, platform engineering, or SRE disciplines, with a minimum of 8 years in a senior/principal SRE or cloud architect capacity.
Proven track record of architecting and delivering large-scale SRE transformation programs for Fortune 500 or equivalent enterprise clients.
Experience working in a consulting / IT services environment with multi-account delivery responsibility is strongly preferred.
Strong executive communication skills; ability to translate complex reliability concepts into business risk and investment narratives for senior stakeholders.
Skills
Cloud & Infrastructure: Deep, hands-on expertise with AWS (preferred) and hybrid-cloud architectures; working knowledge of Azure and GCP.
Advanced proficiency in Kubernetes / OpenShift and Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, CloudFormation, Pulumi, Ansible).
Observability & Reliability Engineering: Architecture-level expertise in full-stack observability – metrics (Prometheus, Datadog), distributed tracing (Jaeger, Tempo, AWS X-Ray), log aggregation (Sumo Logic, ELK, Loki), and Chaos Engineering tooling (Gremlin, Litmus Chaos).
Development & Automation: Software engineering proficiency in Python, Go, or Bash; CI/CD pipeline architecture using GitLab CI, GitHub Actions, Jenkins, ArgoCD, and Tekton; API management and data streaming expertise (Kafka, Kinesis, event-driven architecture).
Security & Compliance: Security architecture for cloud-native platforms using zero-trust, AWS IAM, HSM, Secrets Manager, and SIEM integration; experience with compliance frameworks (SOC 2, PCI-DSS, ISO 27001) and vulnerability management lifecycle.
Benefits
Salary range $90000 to $173500
