About the role

The Sr. Transportation Project Manager will provide leadership within a sector of organization to ensure civil engineering subject matter, technical deliverables, infrastructure projects and programs are delivered with a level of quality that meets or exceeds acceptable industry and company standards for design, safety, and functionality.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the management, growth and development of the Civil Engineering team.
  • Provide leadership, partnering closely with the Local Business Leader and Senior Management Team.
  • Focus on meeting Key Performance Indicators and contribute to the overall success of the SW Mountain District and West Region.
  • Mentor staff to support their growth and professional development.
  • Support our clients and the industry through innovative thought and advancement of transformative transportation projects.
  • Collaborate with other local offices and in-house national transportation delivery experts to provide clients with innovative and future-focused solutions.
  • Serve as key staff on pursuits: project manager, deputy project manager, design lead, advisor, etc.
  • Affiliate with clients to develop new business leads and project pursuits.
  • Develop strategic alliances and project partners to secure new work.
  • Represent the firm in the market through involvement in client and industry events and associations.
  • Lead the delivery of transportation projects and project teams for agencies in the SW Mountain District (Utah, Colorado, Arizona, and New Mexico) as an active member of the transportation team.
  • Lead key projects as Project Manager, Sr Lead or other roles as appropriate.
  • Be an active participant in contract negotiations.
  • Lead staff and have responsibility for project management responsibilities, including oversight of project financial performance, adherence to project management and quality control plans, and adequacy of risk management plans.
  • Provide leadership and oversight to ensure quality project deliverables, including PS&E documents, engineering reports, project memorandums, etc.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, or equivalent.
  • 10+ years of relevant post education experience in transportation engineering and civil design.
  • Engineer license required (multi-state preferred).
  • Proficient with civil engineering principles, practices, process, design/build, and the application to permitting and project work-related issues.
  • Proficient with transportation infrastructure design.
  • Experience with infrastructure planning, design, and program/construction management; including project involvement in a variety of rehabilitation and reconstruction, new design, and construction projects.
  • Strong knowledge of relevant civil construction laws, codes, regulations, compliance practices, and record-keeping requirements.
  • Proficient with making technical computations and calculations involving the application of engineering principles, understanding plans and specifications, and making factual comparisons to the appropriate regulations.
  • Experience with planning and conducting inspections and investigations on various aspects of the construction and design of facilities or structures, applying applicable regulations and policies.
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing intricate ideas effectively and professionally to an engineering and non-engineering audience.
  • Strong self-leadership and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to effectively, persuasively, and tactfully interact with clients, regulators, project managers, and employees at all levels of the organization.
  • Proficiency with technical writing, office automation, discipline-specific design software (i.e., MicroStation, AutoCAD, Civil 3D, ArcGIS, InRoads), technology, math principles, predictive models, spreadsheets, and tools.
  • Experienced with providing critical review for documents and preparing technical deliverables and plans with a high degree of complexity.
  • Demonstrated effectiveness at coordinating and assertively directing subcontractors and others to consistently complete tasks safely and efficiently.
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
  • Flexible to a variety of schedules to meet business needs and able to prioritize responsibilities and quickly adapt to change in a pressure work environment.
