Sr. Tooling Engineer

Primary Responsibilities

  • Assist in design and develop specialized tooling, dies, molds, jigs, fixtures, and gauges for production use, using CAD (SolidWorks) software.
  • Analyze product designs to determine tooling requirements and manufacturing feasibility.
  • Oversee tool assembly, testing, and validation.
  • Troubleshoot tooling issues and implement corrective actions to minimize downtime.
  • Improve existing tooling to enhance quality, productivity, and cost efficiency.
  • Cookordination with production, maintenance, and quality departments during new product launches, new processes, process changes, etc.
  • Ensure tooling complies with engineering specifications, safety standards, and quality requirements.
  • Conduct root cause analysis for tooling failures and recommend preventive measures.
  • Prepare engineering documentation, drawings, bills of materials (BOMs), maintenance procedures, and preventive measures.
  • Support continuous improvement and lean manufacturing initiatives.
  • Manage tooling needs, maintenance schedules and spare inventory.
  • Work directly with sources to provide adequate design feedback.
  • Monitor and confirm their ability to meet timelines as needed, solve design issues as they arise.
  • Participate in sales reviews to ensure appropriate risks are considered with respect to customer requirements. Establish proper alternate feedback when necessary.
  • Absorb and be capable of being the primary project manager for capital projects.
  • Collaborate with plant electricians, mechanics, and operations personnel to provide technical support in diagnosing and resolving electrical, mechanical, and process-related issues.
  • Assist in the development of long-term capital improvement plans for the plant, focusing on equipment upgrades, process improvements, and cost-saving opportunities.
  • Research new materials and methods of development for improving tooling.
  • Assist with organizing and maintaining existing and new engineering records/designs.
  • Lead process improvement studies through engineering improvements.
  • Hands on approach to assist with project launch activities.
  • Provide support and perform activities related to cost analysis when quoting new projects.
  • Develop methods to predict cost of production, components, design and assembly of goods, tooling and fixtures.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or related field preferred. (Appropriate experience can be used in lieu of education).
  • Deep comprehensive understanding of GD&T a must.
  • Displays all BGM Core Values including mindset of an owner and entrepreneur.
  • In depth experience of Tool & Die w/ design experience.
  • Understanding of CAD/CAM. (SolidWorks 3D).
  • Knowledge of types of metals and their characteristics or ability to gain knowledge through self-research.
  • Impeccable attention to detail.
  • Ability to plan, schedule, and problem-solve effectively.
  • In depth knowledge of machining and manufacturing processes.
  • Proficient with the use of Microsoft Office products, (i.e. Excel, Project, etc.).
  • Project Management skills and experience.
  • Experience with integration activities.
  • Has and will maintain an acceptable driving record to travel to customers and suppliers both inside and outside of the country. Valid passport or ability to get one.
