General Responsibilities

  • Lead execution of dynamic sled/crash simulations for child restraint systems, including test setup, instrumentation checks, child restraint system installation, and adherence to all applicable test procedures.
  • Own crash lab operations: pre-test checklists, calibration status, preventative maintenance schedules, and troubleshooting of sled, fixtures, restraints, and data acquisition systems.
  • Perform hands-on setup of crash tests, including test fixtures/sled, instrumentation, installing child restraint systems.
  • Build, modify, and repair test fixtures and lab hardware, including basic fabrication and machining/sanding/drilling, plus troubleshooting mechanical and electrical issues.
  • Advise engineers on crash test procedures, setup tradeoffs, and how test conditions may influence results and design interpretation.
  • Prepare, inspect, and configure anthropomorphic test devices (ATDs) and sensors.
  • Collect, review, and validate test data and provide clear summaries to engineers and program teams.
  • Maintain, repair, and upgrade test systems to maximize operational availability.
  • Ensure completeness, accuracy, and technical integrity of test documentation and records in accordance with quality and retention requirements.
  • Contribute and lead continuous improvement efforts to improve repeatability and throughput.
  • Contribute to lab capability growth (new sensors, instrumentation, fixtures, or methods) by evaluating options, piloting upgrades, and documenting validated procedures.

Qualifications

  • Associate degree (or equivalent experience) in Mechanical/Electrical Technology, Automotive Technology, Biomechanics, or related fields.
  • 2-4 years of related work experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to work well in a team environment.
  • Ability to execute complex test procedures with strong attention to detail.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to maintain and repair fixtures and setups (hand tools, shop tools, basic machining, soldering; welding a plus).
  • Experience troubleshooting mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation issues in a time-critical environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to follow and improve test procedures, maintain records, and deliver repeatable results.
  • Analytical skills to validate test integrity, assess repeatability, and communicate risks to engineering.
  • Proficiency with data acquisition concepts (sampling, triggering, channel checks).
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills to deliver test procedures and test results clearly to engineering and program teams.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel/Word/PowerPoint).
  • Able to comfortably lift 50 lb.

Additional Qualifications

  • Familiarity with child restraint crash testing environments, ATD handling practices, and/or consumer/regulatory performance frameworks is a plus.
  • Experience working cross-functionally with R&D, Compliance, Quality, and external test partners/vendors is a plus.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing methods for plastic injection mold design and tube/wire/sheet metal bending is a plus.
  • Knowledge in CAD (Creo/Solidworks) is a plus.
  • Working knowledge of electronics is a plus.
  • Basic knowledge of programming (firmware, software, AI) is a plus.
