Job Responsibilities
- Ensures good communication with all Team Members.
- Establish and maintain a positive, collaborative team environment.
- Drives 5S and work cell safety performance to achieve a green status every month.
- Engages Team Members to improve ergonomically layout of work stations.
- Improving OEE by engaging all Team Members and applying lean manufacturing theories.
- Follows LSW established for this leader position.
- Ensures all Team Members are effectively trained via the TWI JI method.
- Leads and facilitates Kaizen Events engaging Team Members.
- Provides feedback to Team Members’ concerns within 48 hours.
- Facilitates the implementation of employee suggestions including 24-hour response.
- Escalates all open issues not addressed in a timely manner by support functions to the Supervisors within 48 hours.
- Conducts weekly audits of Team Members to follow Standardized Work (SWI) as documented.
- Audits 5S and continuously improves 5S by engaging Team Members.
- Audits hourly work cell performance and takes action if performance is below standard to ensure that shift targets are met.
- Ensures that team meets established production objectives for SQTCM. (Safety, Quality, Timing, Cost and Motivation).
- Applies Job Relations (JR) training to establish world class relations between Leadership and Team Members.
- Performs LPA’s and other audits as assigned.
- Facilitates pre-shift meetings (L1) to ensure Team Members have the information they need to achieve the daily objectives.
- Facilitates and reports out in (L2 and L3) Supervisor and Operations meetings on work cell performance.
- Ensures that all documentation in the work cell is maintained, up to date and that Team Members understand the information and the purpose of the information provided.
- Ensures Team Members are cross trained for at least 5 jobs.
- Audit and sign off that all safety checks were completed.
- Performs periodic quality checks to support Operators with the objective to allow Operators to produce parts and maintain SWI focus and high OEE.
- Is available in the production area at all times to be able to respond immediately to Team Members call for help (Andon) with the main goal of assisting the Team Member overcome the problem to preserve output for the customer.
- Performs start of shift activities such as reviewing previous shift information regarding safety, quality, and productivity issues, making work assignment adjustments based on absenteeism, training, etc., walking the production area to confirm 5S, equipment readiness, and material supply conditions are to standard, facilitating pre-shift Team Member Tier 1 meeting and end of shift activities such as preparing safety, quality and productivity communication information for next shift, checking that 5S, equipment readiness, and material supply conditions are to standard at end of shift.
- Participates in changeover activities.
- Participates in the maintenance, training, and continuous improvement of Team Member Standardized Work.
- Reviews hour-by-hour performance at the work station hourly at a minimum and takes action to solve problems that impact performance, reports out first hour performance to the Group Leader (Supervisor) at the Tier 2 shop floor meeting along with any issues that will prevent the Team from reaching their goal.
- Observes each Team Member once per week (once every 2nd week for cycle times over 2 minutes, which includes long cycle work) performing standardized work to ensure it is being performed correctly, immediately addresses abnormalities and documents the results.
- Understands and can present the status of at least one problem solving (follows PDCA methodology) activity that he/she is leading at the Tier 3 meeting on the shop floor with production support group members.
- Knowledgeable of the SQTCM improvement targets for their team and can demonstrate with documentation that the team is working on achieving measurable improvements.
- Participates in continuous improvement activities outside of current location of responsibility to improve capability and skills.
- Reviews active Quality Alerts and ensures the team is aware of the issues.
- Must be competent to train new and existing direct reports.
- Mentors, coaches and trains Team Members with TWI method utilizing JES documents and SWI charts.
- Ensures that only trained operators are assigned to jobs.
- Completes A3 problem solving and Mishit 8D reports as necessary.
- Ensures proper labeling identification and disposition of products.
- Aids the organization in implementing MAFACT, including lean, standardized work and continuous improvement activities.
- Operates the hi-lo, crane and any other equipment required to transfer equipment.
- Investigates and implements counter measures for shift incidents along with appropriate departments (Die Setters, Tool & Die Repair, Maintenance and Quality Auditors).
- Responsible to drive the team to improve and maintain communication between departments and shifts.
- Ensures that company policies and procedures are adhered to including IATF16949, ISO14001 (EMS), and Employee Handbook.
- Follows MIOSHA and MPTSH safety regulations and policies, including wearing required P.P.E. (Personal Protective Equipment) and lockout/tagout.
- Attends and participates in the Fast Response, Mafact and Departmental meetings.
- Directs, develops, mentors and coaches all direct reports.

- Manages multiple projects and deliverables while treating Team Members with dignity and respect and in accordance with the Magna Employee’s Charter and Common Values, which includes a commitment to fair treatment and a safe and healthful workplace.
- Participates in continuous improvement activities, submits Cost saving improvement suggestions, CIP’s.
- Complies with the designated ISO / 14001 responsibilities related to effective environmental management in accordance with MPT’s Environmental Management System (EMS).
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in a similar role.
- Proven ability to lead and engage teams effectively.
- Strong understanding of lean manufacturing principles and practices.
- Experience with 5S and work cell safety.
- Ability to conduct audits and provide feedback.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to perform periodic quality checks and maintain Standardized Work (SWI).
- Proficiency in using equipment such as hi-lo, crane, and other transfer equipment.
- Ability to train and mentor direct reports.
- Knowledge of IATF16949, ISO14001 (EMS), and Employee Handbook.
- Experience with A3 problem solving and Mishit 8D reports.
- Ability to operate and troubleshoot equipment.
- Strong problem-solving and root cause analysis skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively with cross-functional teams.
