About the role

The Senior Tax Specialist supports the company’s indirect tax function, with primary responsibility for sales and use tax setup, maintenance, reporting, and compliance. This role also supports audit activity, tax data analysis, and day-to-day tax operations. The position requires strong analytical judgment, attention to detail, and the ability to communicate tax-related matters clearly and professionally. The role should be comfortable using AI-enabled and other technology tools responsibly to support research, analysis, efficiency, and documentation while protecting confidential information and validating output accuracy.

Responsibilities

• Read and interpret individual state regulations and evaluate current reporting to ensure compliance.
• Communicate tax findings and requirements to customers and Account Executives regarding sales tax matters.
• Prepare monthly sales and use tax filings, Canadian GST filings, and related journal entries.
• Assist with sales and use tax audits.
• Serve as subject matter expert for configuration and maintenance of Vertex tax software, including management of customer resale and tax exemption certificates.
• Prepare and file year-end Forms 1099.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience with multi-state sales tax filings.
• Vertex experience preferred.
• Ability to work cross-functionally with both internal and external stakeholders.
• Demonstrated critical thinking, analytical problem-solving, and sound decision-making skills.
• Ability to assess complex or ambiguous situations, prioritize issues, and recommend practical next steps.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and other business systems; experience using AI tools or AI-enabled workplace technology to enhance productivity is preferred.
• Ability to use AI responsibly, including validating outputs, protecting confidential information, and applying appropriate professional judgment.
• Excellent communication, time management, multi-tasking, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to handle and maintain confidential data.
• Work well under pressure and meet deadlines.

Qualifications

Associate’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field.

Pay

The estimated salary range for this position is $50,000 - $60,000 annually. Compensation decisions are influenced by factors including the scope and responsibilities of the role, the candidate's work experience, location, education and training, key skills, internal equity, external market data, and broader market and business considerations.
