We are looking for an experienced Sr. Tax Accountant to join a team on a contract basis during a high-volume filing period. This position will add senior-level review support ahead of key September and October tax deadlines while helping ensure accurate and timely delivery across multiple return types. The role is well suited for a tax specialist who can manage complex filings, maintain quality standards, and contribute effectively in a fast-paced public accounting environment.
Responsibilities
- Review and prepare a broad mix of tax filings, including individual, corporate, S corporation, nonprofit, payroll, and sales and use tax returns.
- Provide added review capacity during peak filing periods to support timely completion of extension-related work in September and October.
- Examine completed returns for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with applicable tax regulations before final submission.
- Coordinate priorities across multiple engagements to keep deadlines on track and maintain consistent service levels.
- Use Carbon and Lacerte to prepare, organize, and review tax documentation and return data.
- Identify filing issues, resolve discrepancies, and communicate needed corrections to support high-quality deliverables.
- Apply technical tax knowledge to varied client situations and help ensure proper treatment across different entity types.
Requirements
- Strong experience preparing and reviewing individual tax returns.
- Demonstrated background in corporate tax return preparation and related compliance work.
- Knowledge of sales and use tax requirements and associated filings.
- Proven ability to handle tax preparation across multiple return categories with a high degree of accuracy.
- Experience supporting deadline-driven workloads in a public accounting or tax-focused environment.
- Proficiency with Carbon and Lacerte or comparable tax software platforms.
- Ability to manage competing priorities and complete work efficiently during peak tax seasons.
