We are looking for a Systems Development Engineer to build new capabilities to help customers run VMware-based workloads on AWS. The AWS Commercial Applications team within Amazon EC2 defines and builds integrations with external software applications running in cloud environments and helps to modernize enterprise customer workloads. Our team just announced Amazon EVS and is expanding and continuing to build new capabilities for our customers migrating and running VMware-based workloads on AWS.

Key job responsibilities

  • Work alongside other builders, principal engineers, and business leaders to create new capabilities that provide enhanced experience for our customers running VMware workloads.
  • Actively participate in product definition, technical architecture reviews, iterative development, code review, and operations.
  • Interact with customers to understand and ensure their needs are met.
  • Lead performance testing and/or benchmarking of AWS infrastructure for VMware workloads and driving continuous improvements.
  • Design and implement software-defined networking solutions, such as virtual switches and overlay networks, to enable flexible and programmable network infrastructure.
  • Invent the foundation for the next phase of the products and beyond.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree, or Bachelor of Arts degree.
  • 6+ years of designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience.
  • Experience with PowerShell (preferred), Python, Ruby, or Java.
  • Hands on deep technical experience with VMware technologies, including ESXi, vSAN, NSX and VCF.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of VMware deployments, VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF), ESXi, vSAN, and NSX.
  • Strong proficiency in automating software deployments and operations using scripting languages such as Bash, Python, and PowerShell.
  • Clear, professional, verbal and written communication with teammates and customers.
  • A commitment to teamwork, hustle, and strong communication skills (to both business and technical partners).
  • Sound understanding of the fundamentals of Computer Science and practical experience building large-scale distributed systems.
  • Enjoy working on complex systems, be customer-centric, and have a proven track record of building exceptionally high quality software that delights customers.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with distributed systems at scale.
  • Strong understanding of networking concepts, protocols, and technologies, including software-defined networking, BGP, BFD, and IP routing.
  • Deep knowledge of the OSI model, with a focus on Layer 2 (Data Link) and Layer 3 (Network) protocols and their interactions.

Pay

  • Base salary range: $151,200.00 - $204,600.00 USD annually (USA, WA, Seattle).
  • Additional compensation includes sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs).
  • Final compensation determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
