About the role

We are looking for a Software Development Engineer to join the Amazon Elastic VMware Service (EVS) team. You will help build new capabilities that enable customers to run VMware-based workloads on AWS. This role involves designing and developing highly available, large-scale distributed systems that integrate deeply with AWS services, driving innovation in how enterprise workloads operate in the cloud.

Responsibilities

  • Obsess over customers, delivering first-class experiences by understanding their challenges and crafting solutions that exceed expectations.
  • Take ownership of ambiguous problems, from architecting distributed systems at cloud scale to resolving complex integration issues.
  • Define problem spaces and deliver robust solutions across the complete software development lifecycle: requirements gathering, design, implementation, testing, deployment, and operational support.
  • Use data to drive decisions, instrumenting systems with meaningful metrics and validating assumptions through experimentation.
  • Contribute to building a world-class team by learning from talented engineers, mentoring teammates, and elevating the team's capabilities through technical leadership.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of non-internship professional software development experience.
  • 2+ years of non-internship design or architecture experience (design patterns, reliability, and scaling) of new and existing systems.
  • 1+ years of experience designing and developing large-scale, multi-tiered, multi-threaded, embedded, or distributed software applications, tools, systems, and services using C#, C++, Java, or Perl.
  • 1+ years of Object-Oriented Design experience.
  • Bachelor's degree or foreign equivalent in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 3+ years of full software development life cycle experience, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent.

The AWS Commercial Applications team within Amazon EC2 defines and builds integrations with external software applications running in cloud environments. The team is part of AWS Utility Computing (UC), which drives product innovations across foundational services like Amazon S3 and EC2, as well as new product innovations in compute, database, storage, IoT, platform, and productivity apps.

Pay

Base salary range: $143,700.00 - $194,400.00 USD annually (for Seattle, WA). Final compensation will be determined based on experience, qualifications, and location.
