About the role

As the Sr. Strategic Sourcing Manager – Marketing and Consulting Services, you will be a key member of Medtronic’s center-led Indirect Supply Management (ISM) team responsible for managing and influencing the annual spend incurred in the Marketing and Consulting categories. This is a global role, with the vast majority of spend concentrated in the Americas. You will partner with senior stakeholders across Functions, Regions, and Businesses to drive value. Reporting to the Indirect Supply Management (ISM) leader for External Services, you will apply your strong business acumen to choose the right supplier and engagement models as well as put in place contracts that will protect Medtronic’s interests. This role is located at Medtronic's headquarters in Minneapolis, MN, and is onsite four days per week.

Responsibilities

  • Lead strategic category management for approximately $300M in annual expenditure, developing and executing transformational sourcing strategies that deliver sustainable competitive advantage and long-term business value.
  • Drive continuous improvements in cost, quality, service, and innovation through category planning, supplier management, competitive sourcing events (RFx), and strategic contract negotiations.
  • Build strong partnerships with internal stakeholders and suppliers, influencing decision-making across a highly matrixed organization while balancing business objectives, contract risk, and supplier performance.
  • Leverage market intelligence, benchmarking, and gap analysis to identify emerging trends, uncover improvement opportunities, and recommend data-driven solutions to leadership.
  • Establish and strengthen spend management, supplier stratification, capability roadmaps, and sourcing governance practices to optimize category performance and compliance.
  • Lead process and system improvement initiatives that enhance purchasing efficiency, cost management, operational effectiveness, and adherence to procurement controls.
  • Promote a culture of continuous improvement by educating stakeholders on sourcing strategies, procurement policies, and Procure-to-Pay processes while driving enterprise-wide adoption of best practices.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required with 7+ years of sourcing experience or an advanced degree with 5+ years of sourcing experience.
  • 5+ years of people management or mentoring experience.
  • Experience managing both Marketing and Consulting categories.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Deep understanding of the underlying economics of services categories.
  • Understanding of the Service Provider landscape, trends, and economics.
  • Global Category Management experience (Strategy Development and Execution in accordance with Strategic Sourcing methodology).
  • Knowledge of working in FDA-regulated industries.
  • Influencing and leading internal teams and external suppliers to deliver results.

For Baccalaureate degrees earned outside of the United States, a degree that satisfies the requirements of 8 C.F.R. 214.2(h)(4)(iii)(A) is required.

Pay

Salary ranges for U.S. (excluding Puerto Rico) locations: $144,000.00 - $216,000.00. The offered rate complies with federal and local regulations and may vary based on factors such as experience, certification/education, market conditions, and location.

This position is eligible for a short-term incentive called the Medtronic Incentive Plan (MIP).
