About the role
The Senior Staff MFG IT Systems Engineer will be responsible for the ZT Systems manufacturing environment, including virtualization with VMware vCenter and related features, and will lead a team managing on‑prem infrastructure such as virtualization, storage, and automation for day‑to‑day support and issue resolution. You will design, implement, and manage applications on Linux and Windows, translate business needs into technology solutions, and maintain modern networking fundamentals across Microsoft enterprise environments (TCP/IP, DNS, SSH/RDP, DHCP, ARP, SMB/CIFS/NFS, DFS).
Responsibilities
- Architect, implement, and maintain highly available Linux/Windows server platforms across on‑prem and hybrid cloud environments.
- Manage and optimize hypervisors (VMware, Hyper‑V, KVM) and enterprise storage platforms (SAN/NAS/object) for performance, resilience, and cost.
- Design and operate HashiCorp Consul (service discovery/mesh), Nomad (workload orchestration), Vault (secrets management/PKI), and Boundary (secure access) in production.
- Standardize and scale configuration management with Ansible and provision infrastructure with Terraform (modules, workspaces, policy as code).
- Build automation and tooling in Python (and Bash/PowerShell where appropriate) to reduce toil, integrate APIs, and improve observability.
- Create, update, and implement scripts and Ansible playbooks with a focus on Python and YAML.
- Participate in cross‑functional projects to improve business processes and systems; plan server migration and deployment projects.
- Monitor performance of critical servers and applications; recommend hardware upgrades and software tuning.
- Engage and manage third‑party vendors to achieve expedient issue resolution.
- Create and maintain system documentation for specifications, designs, procedures, logs, processes, system changes/fixes, and issues.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree (Computer Science preferred) with 8+ years of system engineering experience in enterprise‑level, highly integrated, complex IT environments; or MS degree with 6+ years of experience.
- 8+ years of Linux experience.
- 8+ years of VMware/virtual server experience with working knowledge of vSphere console, vMotion, and VMware management.
- 4+ years of DevOps experience.
- Working proficiency of Python required.
- 4+ years of Ansible experience.
- 4+ years of enterprise storage platforms experience with NFS/SMB/CIFS and solutions including QNAP, Pure, HPE, NetApp.
- Advanced knowledge of Active Directory architecture and support including Group Policy, Replication, DNS, and User/Group Management.
- Solid understanding of modern networking fundamentals: TCP/IP, DNS, SSH/RDP, DHCP, ARP, SMB/CIFS/NFS, DFS.
- Skill and experience with disaster recovery, high availability, and backup technology and procedures for Windows/Linux servers.
- Ability to understand business needs and propose technology solutions that address associated requirements.
