About the role
The Senior Staff Counsel is a full-time attorney position within Asurion’s Revenue Contracts team, reporting to the Director or Assistant General Counsel. This role has responsibility to support drafting and negotiating commercial client agreements, including external-facing contract negotiations, and will provide day-to-day legal support to Asurion’s client services teams. This role requires facilitating discussions designed to consistently provide cross-functional communication and guidance for activities requiring legal support.
Responsibilities
- Accurately assesses and manages risk through knowledge of Asurion’s business and relevant legal issues, including reconciling the implication of past precedent with current and future needs
- Works to support client accounts, and act as a liaison to broker creative solutions for relevant stakeholders
- Demonstrates the ability to effectively understand, consider, and address the client or business while mitigating risk exposure
- Strives to establish and maintain strong collaborative relationships with cross-functional team, including legal, customer solutions, finance, marketing, program management, client services, and product
- Exhibits strong drafting, negotiating, collaboration, and communication skills
- Conducts in-depth and ad-hoc contractual research projects
- Has a functional understanding of the company’s risk profile and the impact of decisions on the company’s core financial performance
- Actively seeks operational understanding and implications of initiatives
- Develops a thorough understanding of Asurion’s business, processes, and goals to provide innovative legal solutions that solve unique or challenging problems
- Demonstrates good analytical skills and judgment to evaluate factual and qualitative information in complicated or novel situations
- Acts as a trusted advisor
Requirements
- J.D. from an ABA-accredited law school and admission to the bar in Tennessee
- 5+ years of relevant experience; AI and/or privacy experience a plus
- Experience in commercial transactions, including client agreement negotiations is required
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Must be able to independently handle a variety and number of legal matters under supervision of more experienced legal counsel
- Displays the ability to effectively understand, consider, and address the internal client or business while mitigating risk exposure
- Possesses strong judgment, confidence, collaborative problem-solving skills, and ability to spot potential issues quickly
- Exceptional ability to schedule and prioritize work and deliverables to ensure on-time response to a large variety of changing demands/requests/requirements
- Highly organized and driven to thoroughly understand the issue and the possible implications of legal guidance
- Able to work well within a team environment, as well as individually and collaborate effectively
- Successfully works independently with little supervision while delivering results that meet or exceed expectations
- Must be highly proficient with full Microsoft suite; familiarity with O365 a plus

- May have some experience in insurance and technology industries and/or has a minimum of 5 years of in-house experience
