About the role

The Missile Solutions Segment of L3Harris is seeking an experienced Sr. Specialist, Project Engineer to assist in executing multiple phases of engine integration hardware within assigned defense programs, as well as supporting advanced propulsion systems. This role will be located at our Canoga Park, CA facility and involves collaboration with engineering, operational, quality, and supply chain functions to ensure successful component completion.

Responsibilities

• Work under consultative direction with minimal oversight, responsible for project or processes within the functional program management area.
• Communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with internal and external contacts (e.g., customers, suppliers) to execute project objectives.
• Provide realistic, practical, and robust solutions to a wide range of technical problems using conventional engineering techniques.
• Assist in managing technical, cost, and schedule elements of a project using Earned Value Management (EVM) principles to ensure program financial well-being and support proposal development.
• Collaborate with technical teams to develop and implement propulsion production processes, tooling, equipment design, material evaluation plans, data analysis, and application activities.
• Develop, monitor, and update project plans consistent with the overall program plan and established command media.
• Brief management and support program managers in briefing customers on all facets of assigned projects.
• Travel up to 30% to suppliers and other production sites as required.
• Work extended hours as needed to meet business objectives.
• Ability to obtain a U.S. security clearance (LEVEL).

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree and minimum 6 years of prior relevant Engineering experience, or
• Graduate Degree and a minimum of 4 years of prior related Engineering experience, or
• In lieu of a degree, minimum of 10 years of prior related experience.

Preferred Skills

• Bachelor’s Degree in Aerospace Engineering or Mechanical Engineering.
• Experience with Microsoft Office products (Project, Excel, PowerPoint, Word).
• Engineering drawing and GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing) application experience.
• Ability to understand technical drawings and specifications, as well as working knowledge of general production systems/methods and lean manufacturing principles.
• Familiarity or experience with Earned Value Management Systems (EVMS) and experience as a cost account manager.
• Experience with government propulsion customers and prime contractors.
• Experience mentoring early-career or junior engineers across multiple engineering backgrounds.
• Strong comprehensive knowledge of Project Engineering.
• Experience in business and engineering schedule cadence for both development-type and production-centric programs.
• Demonstrated strong communication skills involving multiple cross-functional engineering organizations, management, program technical leadership, and program management.
• Experience working in the defense industry with an existing clearance is a plus.
• Experience or involvement in Failure/Anomaly investigations of project components, assemblies, or system integration.
• Experience evaluating component environment test results and qualification processes.
• Experience with CAD software tools (CREO) and PLM Systems (Windchill) is a plus.
• Familiarity or experience generating proposals, including work breakdown structures (WBS) definition, Integrated Master Schedule (IMS) definition, validation test planning, and Pricing Inputs for Basis of Estimate (BOE).
• Experience with the design, manufacturing, or testing of liquid rocket engine thrusters, valves, pressure regulators, pressure switches, tanks, or transducers.
• Experience in small hypergolic propulsion systems, such as divert attitude control thrusters, is highly desired.

Pay

In compliance with pay transparency requirements, the salary range for this role in California is $106,500 - $197,500. This is not a guarantee of compensation or salary, as final offer amount may vary based on factors including but not limited to experience and geographic location.

Schedule

9/80 work schedule: 9 out of every 14 days (totaling 80 hours worked) with every other Friday off.
