About the Role
The Network Systems Engineer – Level 4 plays a strategic role in shaping McKesson’s enterprise network architecture to deliver secure, scalable, and high-performing connectivity across global operations. This position leads complex design initiatives, defines standards, and drives innovation through automation and emerging technologies. Operating within a regulated environment, this role ensures compliance with security and operational frameworks while enabling business continuity and transformation. It contributes to enterprise architecture alignment, technology roadmaps, and governance for network infrastructure, evaluates new solutions, optimizes existing environments, and collaborates with senior stakeholders to influence strategic decisions.
Responsibilities
- Architect and implement enterprise network solutions for hybrid cloud and on-prem environments, ensuring scalability, security, and resilience.
- Define network standards, policies, and governance frameworks to align with enterprise architecture and compliance requirements.
- Lead technology evaluations, proof-of-concepts, and vendor assessments to support strategic infrastructure decisions.
- Drive automation and orchestration strategies for provisioning, configuration, and monitoring across global environments.
- Perform advanced troubleshooting and root cause analysis for systemic issues; implement long-term corrective actions.
- Oversee capacity planning, performance optimization, and high-availability design patterns for critical services.
- Develop and maintain architectural documentation, design patterns, and operational guidelines for network infrastructure.
- Collaborate with Enterprise Architecture, Security, and Infrastructure teams to ensure alignment with business priorities and regulatory standards.
- Provide advanced support for change and incident management processes, including risk assessments and impact analysis for complex initiatives.
- Influence strategic planning and contribute to infrastructure roadmaps that enable innovation and operational excellence.
Requirements
Degree or equivalent and typically requires 7+ years of relevant experience.
Candidate must be authorized to work in the U.S., now or in the future, without support from McKesson.
Skills
- Expert-level knowledge of networking protocols and technologies, including TCP/IP, Load-balancing, GSLB/DNS, WAF, API Gateway, and advanced routing/switching.
- Proven experience in designing and implementing enterprise network architectures across hybrid cloud and global environments.
- Strong understanding of network security principles, compliance frameworks, and regulatory requirements.
- Proven skills in automation and orchestration using tools such as Ansible, Python, or similar technologies.
- Ability to lead complex incident resolution and perform systemic root cause analysis for critical infrastructure issues.
- Expertise in capacity planning, performance optimization, and high-availability design strategies.
- Strong documentation and governance skills for architectural standards and operational procedures.
- Effective communication and influencing skills for engaging senior stakeholders and cross-functional teams.
Pay
Our base pay range for this position is $119,300 - $198,900. This range is aligned with McKesson’s pay philosophy and compliant with applicable regulations. In addition to base pay, other compensation such as an annual bonus or long-term incentive opportunities may be offered.
