Sr. Sourcing Specialist

About the Role
As a Sr Sourcing Specialist at Unum, you will be part of the global supply management organization. You will lead sourcing and execution of projects, contracting, and supplier relationship management across the enterprise. Your role will focus on managing cost, quality, and delivery performance of Unum’s supply base, including cost reduction projects, strategic sourcing, supplier contract negotiations, and supplier performance management.
Responsibilities
- Lead and participate on cross-functional teams to develop, implement, and execute sourcing strategies to reduce cost and mitigate risk.
- Manage and conduct RFX events for low and medium complexity enterprise-wide sourcing projects, including bid analysis, process specifications, and sourcing recommendations.
- Ensure proper control and consistent application of best practices for sourcing and procurement processes.
- Develop negotiation strategies, gain stakeholder alignment, and lead category-based negotiation teams using BATNA and other methodologies.
- Conduct complex analyses, including price/cost, benefit, and financial analysis, with a strong understanding of contract development and evaluation.
- Work closely with business owners and subject matter experts to source new requirements in a timely manner.
- Assist in analyzing and interpreting procedures and guidelines related to sourcing goods and services.
- Support and improve supply base development programs (e.g., supplier diversity, local economic development, green sustainability).
- Consult with business partners to create Service Level Agreements to measure and manage supplier performance.
- Manage, coordinate, and track supplier relationships and performance using supplier scorecards and feedback cycles.
- Ensure decision-making is supported by technical and functional knowledge of the category and leading-edge analytical methods.
- Collaborate with legal to ensure contracts follow the company’s review and approval process.
- Analyze supplier contracts and recommend appropriate changes.
- Perform prospective supplier assessments, including financial stability and customer reference checks.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, or equivalent work experience.
- 5-8 years of experience in Procurement, Category Management, Supplier Management, or Sourcing.
- Project Management experience is a plus.
- Strong relationship and communication skills to collaborate with and influence internal and external partners across all levels and geographic markets.
- Proven ability to initiate and maintain stakeholder engagement.
- Strong negotiation, contracting, communication (verbal & written), influence, and leadership skills.
- Strategic thinking and planning skills, with a track record of delivering tangible results in complex and matrix environments.
- Ability to set stretch goals and define steps to achieve results.
- Proven skills in developing and implementing sourcing and negotiation strategies.
- Demonstrated negotiation, presentation, and decision-making skills.
- Ability to perform financial analysis (e.g., supplier capital projects, ROI, NPV, make vs. buy, lease vs. buy).
- Advanced PC skills (Excel, PowerPoint, Word).

Pay
The base salary range for this position is $63,500.00 - $120,000.00. Actual pay will be based on skill, geographical location, and experience.
